Oblivion Remastered Mods You Should Try Out

Ready to revisit Cyrodiil? Transforming your journey through the Imperial Province is totally possible with these oblivion remastered mods that enhance performance, visuals, and gameplay while preserving that classic Oblivion experience we know and love.

Playing Oblivion remastered feels great, but adding the right touch of community work makes it even better.

Essential Utility Mods

Before getting into all the cool graphics and quest mods for your Oblivion remastered, we gotta talk foundation. You need these essential utility mods. They’re the backbone, improving stability and letting everything else actually run right. You won’t see them, but trust me, you need them for a smooth experience with any other oblivion mods.

Oblivion Script Extender

Oblivion remastered base game, even updated, has some limitations. Specifically, the scripting stuff. This is where the Oblivion Script Extender, or OBSE, comes in. It’s a utility mod that basically restores and expands the scripting capabilities that were maybe, you know, overlooked or just not possible back when the original game came out.

Oblivion Script Extender mod for Oblivion Remastered.

⭐ Key Features:

  • Extends scripting functionality beyond the base game
  • Required dependency for most advanced mods
  • Compatible with latest remastered updates
  • Gameplay changes: Invisible to players but enables countless other mods to function properly

If you plan on running pretty much any significant mods for Oblivion remastered, you’re going to need this. It doesn’t change the game itself, you won’t notice it running, but half the other mods won’t work without it. It’s the silent partner making the magic happen.

Unofficial Oblivion Remastered Patch (UORP)

Unofficial Oblivion Remastered Patch mod (UORP).

Look, even Oblivion remastered isn’t perfect it’s got bugs. The Unofficial Oblivion Remastered Patch is totally essential. This mod fixes over a thousand things—quests, textures, all sorts of stuff the official patches somehow missed.

⭐ Key Features:

  • Fixes over 1,300 bugs from the official release
  • Corrects quest inconsistencies and progression issues
  • Resolves texture and mesh problems
  • Gameplay changes: Creates a more stable foundation without changing core gameplay

This mod doesn’t mess with the core gameplay of Oblivion. It just makes it work the way it should have from the start. Less crashing, fewer broken quests – it just makes the whole remastered experience so much more stable. It’s like cleaning up your room before inviting friends over; everything just runs smoother.

Ultimate Engine Tweaks

Ultimate Engine Tweaks mod for Oblivion Remastered.

Even in its remastered state, the old Oblivion engine can be tricky on modern PCs. Ultimate Engine Tweaks is a mod that helps with performance, letting you control visual stuff to cut down stuttering or input lag. It’s basically your frame rate’s best friend for Oblivion.

⭐ Key Features:

  • Reduces stuttering and input latency
  • Allows disabling post-processing effects
  • Improves frame rates on various hardware configurations
  • Gameplay changes: Smoother performance without sacrificing visual quality

It lets you toggle off things like certain post-processing effects that might hit your frame rate harder than they’re worth. The goal here is a smoother game, hitting closer to that sweet 100 FPS target if your rig can manage it. It’s about making your Oblivion remastered run better, letting you focus on playing, not fighting the engine.

UE4SS Runtime for Oblivion Remastered

UE4SS Runtime mod for Oblivion Remastered.

Tthis mod is a bit technical, but it’s another essential utility. UE4SS Runtime provides backend support for Oblivion remastered, working with Unreal Engine script stuff. Since the remastered game uses Unreal Engine, you need this mod for lots of others to function properly.

⭐ Key Features:

  • User-friendly implementation of Unreal Engine script support
  • Required for many advanced mods
  • Streamlined for end-user experience
  • Gameplay changes: Enables deeper modifications to game systems

Like OBSE, this mod is often a requirement for more complex mods that do interesting things with the game’s systems. It makes it easier for mod authors to create those deeper modifications, which in turn means more cool stuff for you to play with in Oblivion. It’s designed to be simple to install, thankfully.

Universal Achievement Unblocker

Universal Achievement Unblocker mod for Oblivion Remastered.

Using mods in Oblivion remastered can sometimes disable achievements, which is super annoying when you’re trying to 100% the game. The Universal Achievement Unblocker mod stops that from happening.

⭐ Key Features:

  • Keeps achievements enabled despite mod usage
  • Works with both Steam and Xbox achievements
  • Simple installation with no configuration needed
  • Gameplay changes: Preserves progression tracking for completionists

This mod does exactly what it says on the tin. It lets you use mods in your Oblivion remastered playthrough without disabling achievements. For anyone who likes seeing that progress tick up or enjoys the challenge of getting them all, this is a simple, but super useful mod. It just works, no fuss required.

Visual Enhancement Mods

With the game stable thanks to those first mods, next up is making your Oblivion remastered look sharp. These visual mods clean things up and improve the presentation. They don’t change the core Oblivion feel, just make it look better, polishing what’s already there.

Better HUD

Better HUD mod for Oblivion Remastered showing improved UI.

Let’s talk about the Heads-Up Display, or HUD. In a lot of older games, the UI can feel a bit… big. Like it’s taking over half your screen. The Better HUD mod for Oblivion remastered aims to fix that by modernizing those user interface elements. It scales down some of the more intrusive bits.

⭐ Key Features:

  • Scales down intrusive UI components
  • Multiple minimalist layout options
  • Customizable opacity settings
  • Gameplay changes: More immersive exploration with less screen clutter

This mod offers a few different layouts, including some really clean, minimalistic ones, which, honestly, I prefer. You can even tweak how transparent things are. Less screen clutter means you can actually see more of Cyrodiil as you’re exploring, which makes the whole experience feel more immersive. It’s a simple change, but a really effective one for cleaning up the look of Oblivion.

No HUD No Effects

No HUD No Effects mod for Oblivion Remastered screenshots.

Sometimes you just want a clean view of the world. Maybe you’re trying to get a perfect screenshot of some ancient ruin or a stunning landscape (I mean, who isn’t in Oblivion?). The No HUD No Effects mod gives you toggle functionality specifically for those moments.

⭐ Key Features:

  • One-button UI removal for screenshots
  • Toggles visual effects including fog and outlines
  • Optional hotkey configuration
  • Gameplay changes: Enhanced immersion and photography options

With this mod, you can just hit a button, and poof, the entire UI is gone. It even lets you toggle certain visual effects like fog or those annoying outlines that show up sometimes. It’s invaluable for capturing those moments, whether it’s for blog posts (🤔) or just your own collection. Makes taking beautiful pictures in Oblivion remastered so much easier.

Body Type Selector

Body Type Selector mod for Oblivion Remastered character creation.

Okay, this one’s a small fix, but for some of us, it matters. The original Oblivion character creation had a simple male/female body type selection right at the start. The remastered version, for whatever reason, changed that flow slightly. The Body Type Selector mod brings back that classic selection screen.

⭐ Key Features:

  • Brings back classic male/female selection screen
  • Preserves character customization choice
  • Compatible with other character creation mods
  • Gameplay changes: More intuitive character creation process

It just makes the character creation process feel more familiar and perhaps a bit more straightforward right at the beginning. It works fine with other mods that add more hair, faces, or races, just slotting that initial choice back where some of us feel it belongs in Oblivion. A nice little touch for starting your adventure.

Gameplay Balance Mods

Even Oblivion remastered has issues with its original systems, especially leveling and loot. These gameplay balance mods fix those quirks. They make the challenge feel earned, not just scaled, smoothing out things that felt off in classic Oblivion.

Ascension Remastered – Vanilla-Plus Loot and Balance

Ascension Remastered mod for Oblivion Remastered, enhancing loot and balance.

If you felt like finding rare loot in the original Oblivion wasn’t quite as exciting as it could be, or that enemies scaled in a way that felt a bit… artificial, the Ascension Remastered mod might be for you. This is a popular gameplay overhaul with what they call a “vanilla-plus” philosophy. That means it tries to improve the game significantly while still feeling like Oblivion.

⭐ Key Features:

  • Makes rare loot actually rare and meaningful
  • Restructures enemy spawns based on location importance
  • Calibrated specifically for Oblivion Remastered
  • Gameplay changes: More consistent challenge curve while maintaining the original vision

This mod makes finding rare loot in Oblivion feel special again, not just level-dependent. It also tweaks enemy spawns so exploration feels more natural and less predictable than the base game’s scaling. It’s calibrated for Oblivion remastered, giving you a challenge that feels earned.

Unleveled Item Rewards

Unleveled Item Rewards mod for Oblivion Remastered.

One of Oblivion’s most annoying systems was leveled items; their power scaled with your level. Finding a cool sword early meant it got weak later. The Unleveled Items mod for Oblivion remastered scraps that system.

⭐ Key Features:

  • Ensures powerful artifacts remain consistently powerful
  • Creates more immersive world progression
  • Comprehensive coverage of all game items
  • Gameplay changes: More rewarding exploration regardless of player level

With this mod, powerful items in Oblivion stay powerful whenever you find them. This makes exploring and finding treasure way more rewarding at any level. It’s more like Morrowind—finding something great early can change things. The mod covers almost everything, making the world feel more real.

Balanced NPC Level Cap – Remastered

Balanced NPC Level Cap mod for Oblivion Remastered fixes scaling.

Another infamous Oblivion system was NPC level scaling. It meant weak enemies could become way too tough just because you leveled up. The Balanced NPC Level Cap mod for Oblivion remastered fixes this by giving consistent level caps to over 1,400 NPCs.

⭐ Key Features:

  • Implements consistent level caps for over 1,400 NPCs
  • Covers both base game and all DLCs
  • Prevents absurdly powerful enemies at high levels
  • Gameplay changes: More natural progression and challenge throughout the game

This prevents ridiculous scaling, like wolves suddenly being super tough just ’cause you leveled. Challenge in Oblivion becomes about where enemies are and their actual strength, not just your level. It makes exploring Oblivion remastered feel way more natural with this mod. It really fixes how difficulty works.

Difficulty Slider Fixed

Difficulty Slider Fixed mod for Oblivion Remastered.

The difficulty slider in Oblivion always felt a bit… rough. Moving it felt like you were just swinging damage numbers wildly rather than fine-tuning the experience. The Difficulty Slider Fixed mod is a simple but incredibly effective quality-of-life improvement that addresses this.

⭐ Key Features:

  • Smooths out damage multiplier transitions
  • Provides more nuanced challenge control
  • Simple but effective quality-of-life improvement
  • Gameplay changes: Allows finding the perfect challenge level for each player

This mod smooths the Oblivion remastered difficulty slider, giving you better control. You can dial in the challenge perfectly for your playstyle. It’s a small mod but huge for tailoring Oblivion to you.

Quality of Life Improvements

With stability, looks, and balance sorted, let’s look at Quality of Life mods for Oblivion remastered. These mods make playing smoother, fixing little annoyances without changing the main game. They just make the experience less fiddly.

Carry Weight Modifier

Carry Weight Modifier mod for Oblivion Remastered.

Ah, carry weight. The bane of many RPG adventurers. In Oblivion, like many games, you can quickly get weighed down by all that sweet loot. The Carry Weight Modifier is a pretty clever mod that tackles this problem, not by just giving you infinite carry weight (that feels like cheating, right?), but with a neat trick involving lockpicks.

⭐ Key Features:

  • Uses negative-weight lockpicks to increase carry capacity
  • Preserves inventory management without constant burden
  • Elegant solution to a common frustration
  • Gameplay changes: Less inventory micromanagement while maintaining immersion

The mod makes lockpicks have negative weight. So collecting them gives you more carry capacity. It’s a smart fix for Oblivion that eases inventory burden without removing it completely. Less time fiddling with gear in your Oblivion remastered, more time playing.

No Item Degradation

No Item Degradation mod for Oblivion Remastered.

Repairing weapons and armor is a mechanic that some people love, and some people just find tedious. If you fall into the latter camp, the No Item Degradation mod is going to be a godsend for your Oblivion remastered playthrough. It removes the need for constantly repairing your gear at blacksmiths or with repair hammers.

⭐ Key Features:

  • Eliminates need for blacksmith repairs
  • Maintains enchantment degradation for balance
  • Reduces tedious maintenance tasks
  • Gameplay changes: More focus on adventure, less on equipment upkeep

This mod removes weapon and armor degradation in Oblivion. Your gear won’t break, though enchantments still wear down (which feels like a good balance). It’s a simple mod that saves you a ton of fiddling with repairs, so you can focus on adventuring in Oblivion remastered.

Auto Local Map – Smarter Map Opening

Oblivion Remastered mod Auto Local Map for smarter map opening.

Exploring dungeons and buildings in Oblivion is a huge part of the game, but navigating the local map system can sometimes feel a little clunky. You enter a new area, and you have to manually open the map to see where you are and where you can go. The Auto Local Map mod streamlines this.

⭐ Key Features:

  • Automatically opens local maps when entering new areas
  • Saves time with interior navigation
  • Reduces menu navigation frustration
  • Gameplay changes: More intuitive dungeon exploration experience

This mod in Oblivion remastered just auto-opens the local map when you enter new interiors. It’s a small thing, but it saves you clicking and makes navigating dungeons feel way less like fighting menus. A handy time-saver mod for Oblivion.

Faster Sleep and Wait

Faster Sleep and Wait mod for Oblivion Remastered.

Waiting or sleeping in games to pass time is essential, whether you’re waiting for a shop to open or for a quest objective to become available. But sometimes, the speed at which time passes can feel agonizingly slow. The Faster Sleep and Wait mod for Oblivion remastered fixes this by speeding things up significantly.

⭐ Key Features:

  • Accelerates wait times to 250ms per in-game hour
  • Makes vendor schedules less frustrating
  • Reduces interruptions to gameplay flow
  • Gameplay changes: Smoother progression without tedious waiting

This mod speeds up sleeping and waiting times a lot in Oblivion remastered. No more annoying waits for vendors! It reduces interruptions, getting you back to playing Oblivion faster. It’s a simple but great speed-up mod.

Weightless Alchemy & Misc Items

Weightless Alchemy and Misc Items mod for Oblivion Remastered.

Similar to the main carry weight issue, those little items – potions, ingredients, books, arrows, soul gems – they add up! Before you know it, you’re over-encumbered just by being a diligent alchemist or archer. The Weightless Alchemy & Misc Items mod removes the weight from these consumable and small items in Oblivion remastered.

⭐ Key Features:

  • Zero-weight potions, books, arrows, and soul gems
  • Focuses inventory management on equipment choices
  • Encourages collecting useful consumables
  • Gameplay changes: More freedom to carry diverse items without burden penalties

This mod gives zero weight to potions, books, arrows, and soul gems in Oblivion. Your inventory focus shifts to your gear, which makes more sense. It’s great for hoarders, letting you carry useful stuff without hitting the weight limit. More freedom exploring your Oblivion remastered!

Experimental and Community Mods

Moving past the usual fixes, the Oblivion remastered modding scene is also experimenting big time. These community mods bring innovative stuff new features, even tech not around back then. It’s cool seeing these fresh ideas push boundaries for classic Oblivion!

Ghosts of Tamriel

Ghosts of Tamriel mod for Oblivion Remastered showing a player message.

Ever played Dark Souls and seen those little orange messages or the ghostly figures of other players? The Ghosts of Tamriel mod brings a similar kind of asynchronous multiplayer experience to single-player Oblivion remastered. It’s inspired by those social systems and lets players interact in a unique way.

⭐ Key Features:

  • Allows players to leave messages for other players
  • Creates asynchronous multiplayer experience
  • Fosters community sharing of hints and secrets
  • Gameplay changes: Adds a social dimension to the single-player experience

The mod lets players leave messages in the Oblivion world for others. Share hints or jokes! It adds a cool community layer, making your solo game feel less lonely.

First Person Horse

First Person Horse mod for Oblivion Remastered.

This might sound like a small thing, but it fixes something that honestly bothered some of us about the original Oblivion and its remastered version. When you rode a horse, you were always in third person. Yet, if you remember the pre-release material or even just standard first-person RPGs, you’d expect a first-person option for mounted travel. The First Person Horse mod adds that missing feature.

⭐ Key Features:

  • Adds missing advertised feature from remastered
  • True first-person view while mounted
  • Seamless perspective transitions
  • Gameplay changes: More immersive horseback travel experience

This simple mod for Oblivion remastered lets you ride horses in first person. It’s way more immersive, especially if you prefer that view. It just makes riding through Oblivion feel more connected, like the game’s finally complete in that way.

Upcoming and In-Development Mods

Even with tons of mods out, the Oblivion remastered modding scene is also experimenting big time. There are ambitious projects coming that will hugely expand the experience. They aren’t ready yet, but these future Oblivion mods are exciting to watch.

Skyblivion

Okay, this is the big one. Skyblivion is probably the most ambitious fan project related to Oblivion, ever. It’s a total conversion mod that is literally remaking the entirety of Oblivion within Skyrim’s engine. Yeah, you read that right. The goal is to let you play Oblivion and all its quests and explore Cyrodiil, but with the graphical capabilities and some of the more modern systems of Skyrim.

⭐ Key Features:

  • Complete Oblivion remake with modern engine capabilities
  • Official support from Bethesda
  • Years of dedicated community development
  • Gameplay changes: Will offer completely reimagined Oblivion experience

Skyblivion, a huge volunteer project, has been years in the making and is nearing release—aiming for 2025! Bethesda even supports it, which is neat. This isn’t a simple port; it’s a full remake of Oblivion in Skyrim’s engine, rebuilding everything. We’ll get enhanced visuals (bye, potato faces?) and mechanics, keeping that Oblivion heart. Exploring Cyrodiil with Skyrim’s engine is super exciting for us Oblivion remastered mods fans!

The Path To Release (Skyblivion Roadmap 2024)
Skyblivion roadmap

By the way, I look for similar types of mods when I play other games too, like this post with the best mods for Dragon’s Dogma 2. It’s always about finding the ones that fix things, add QOL, and make the core game better, not just change it for the sake of it.
