ABOUT DAFY, THE BLOG’S AUTHOR
HI, I’M DAFY
I’ve been playing games since 1999, exploring hundreds of worlds along the way, from abandoned radioactive wastelands to classic fantasy universes.
This blog, Dafy Gaming Hub, is my personal space for documenting those adventures. I write the way I want to, without following the corporate standards of big publications. Think of it as a kind of gonzo journalism for video games.
For me, gaming has never just been a way to kill time or mindlessly mash buttons. It’s about full immersion and trying to understand why some games become legends while others are forgotten as soon as the credits roll. 😉
Everything you’ll find here, from articles and thoughts to screenshots and videos, comes from an ordinary player’s perspective. I’m a longtime gamer first, rather than a typical games journalist on a publisher’s payroll.
MY STORY
My gaming journey
I’ve been gaming since 1999 and still remember when RPGs came with actual paper manuals you had to read. Back then, you hunted for mods on old forums, and ‘early access’ wasn’t a universal excuse for releasing a broken game. I grew up with what are now considered genre classics: Gothic, Arcanum, Morrowind, Baldur’s Gate, KOTOR and Diablo. They shaped my taste in games.
I’ve been gaming since 1999
I’m most interested in RPGs, strategy games, sandboxes, action RPGs and MMOs. These games tend to have the richest lore and choices that actually matter.
It’s good to see that newer games such as The Witcher 3, Red Dead Redemption 2, Kingdom Come, Pillars of Eternity and Baldur’s Gate 3 can still deliver that feeling of deep character progression and a great story.
Strategy games such as Total War, especially Rome and Warhammer, Warcraft 2–3 and Age of Empires keep you thinking: they’re a kind of intellectual puzzle. Games like Kenshi and Bannerlord create stories as you play. As for MMOs like World of Warcraft, they’re all about socializing, character growth and living worlds that change before your eyes. I’ve long since lost count of the hours I’ve spent in WoW or Lineage II 🙂
My favorite settings are medieval worlds and fantasy, where real history blends with myth. I also enjoy a good post-apocalyptic setting and various kinds of punk, from steampunk to swordpunk and beyond.
PREFERENCES
Favorite games and genres
Turn-based or action, it doesn’t matter. If there’s deep character progression and a story, I’m in.
Planning and control. I can easily get hooked for days, building cities in Anno or plotting another campaign in Rome: Total War.
Lively combat, exploring interesting worlds and everything that comes with it.
Socializing, grinding and team play. These are a world of their own; you can practically live in them.
HOBBIES
Virtual photography: screenshots and videos
Besides writing for the blog, I spend a lot of time taking screenshots and making edits for Pinterest. I look for the right angle and lighting to capture how a game feels to me. You’ll see some of those shots here on the site; visit my Pinterest for the rest.
AWAY FROM THE SCREEN
Other interests: music and books
Away from the screen, I still love fantasy, especially Tolkien. The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit are essential reading for me. That’s probably why I value games with richly detailed worlds so much.
My taste in music changes with my mood. Metal like Rammstein, In Extremo and Black Sabbath; folk like The Dubliners. I love alternative rock and grunge: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Creed and Alice in Chains. My playlist also includes electronic music from Parov Stelar, jazz, post-punk and old-school ’90s hip-hop like 2Pac. Music and gaming go hand in hand for me. I almost always have something playing, especially in MMOs. 😉
You’ll find some of my favorite songs, with more than just rock and metal, in a separate playlist.
Bob Dylan and The Big Lebowski were made for each other.
