Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord town mods transform settlement management, from controlling fiefs remotely to building your own settlements from scratch. These selections turn vanilla’s town system into a full strategy experience with economics, rebellions, and social mechanics.
Town Tweaks
Town Tweaks fixes one of Bannerlord’s most irritating problems: riding across Calradia just to check construction progress or replace a governor. It adds a complete interface for managing any settlement from the clan screen, wherever you are on the map.

- Remote town and castle management through the clan screen
- Configurable construction speed multipliers
- Change settlement culture for a configurable fee, defaulting to 50,000 denars
- Manage construction queues, projects, and gold reserves
- Adjust construction boost costs and effectiveness
- Full integration with the vanilla interface
✅ How gameplay changes: Town Tweaks removes dull map travel and lets you focus on strategy. Fight at one end of Calradia while overseeing development at the other. Changing town culture addresses loyalty in conquered territories: pay to integrate new lands instead of facing endless rebellions. Recommended if constant settlement micromanagement has worn you down.
Player Settlements
Player Settlements lets you build complete towns, castles, and villages anywhere on the map, subject to configurable requirements. One of the most ambitious mods, it gives those settlements full functionality, including caravans, tournaments, sieges, and management.

- Build towns, castles, and villages anywhere on the map
- Configure requirements and construction speed through MCM
- Choose settlement culture and layout
- Full world integration, including economy, defense, and attached villages
- Found a kingdom with a governor in place
- Data stored in the save from version 3.0.0 onward
- Ports for War Sails content and Nord town templates
✅ How gameplay changes: Player Settlements makes Bannerlord a city-building strategy game, letting you create a network of settlements from scratch. Populate empty areas, build trading outposts at strategic locations, or found a kingdom on unoccupied territory. Creating a town can cause conflicts with older saves: the mod overwrites the current save.
Bannerlord Expanded — Settlement Interactions
AxelCawe’s Settlement Interactions adds settlement roleplaying activities to fill the downtime between wars. Configurable features expand your interactions with towns, villages, and castles.

- Village taverns with wandering companions
- Organize tournaments in towns with arena access
- Train companions in castles through experience gains and duels
- Hold feasts for soldiers in your castles to improve morale
- Enable or disable each feature separately
✅ How gameplay changes: This answers “what do I do during peacetime?” Instead of aimless map travel, you can train companions in allied castles, search villages for heroes, or organize tournaments for money and renown. Soldier feasts are a useful way to maintain morale without constant victories. It fits naturally into the game without cluttering the interface.
Bannerlord Economy Overhaul
Economy Overhaul rebuilds Bannerlord’s economic system so towns, villages, and trade have more influence on wars. It uses gradual economic pressure rather than scripted events, allowing AI to react organically to changing conditions.

- Town stability depends on connected villages
- Village raids cause real damage to town economies
- Dynamic demand and prices based on population
- Village production accounts for population, region, season, and town demand
- Kingdom caravans actively support their own towns
- Workshop management with automatic buying and selling
- Workshop upgrade levels 1-5 with scaling income
✅ How gameplay changes: Logistics and economics become almost central to wartime strategy. Raiding villages before a siege truly weakens a town, prolonged wars drain the treasury, and a strong economy supports lengthy campaigns. AI starts playing more intelligently because economic pressure makes particular actions more or less profitable.
Better Townswoman
Better Townswoman improves female characters in towns and villages across all six Calradian cultures, replacing vanilla presets with more detailed models.

- Improved models for female townsfolk and villagers
- All six cultures supported: Vlandia, Sturgia, Battania, the Empire, Aserai, and Khuzaits
- A character-code file for creating your own variations
✅ How gameplay changes: It does not change mechanics, but better-looking NPCs make settlements livelier and more pleasant to visit. If identical background faces bothered you, Better Townswoman adds variety. Installation is straightforward: copy the file to Modules and activate it in the launcher.
Separatism
Separatism introduces rebellions that complicate expansion for every faction, including yours. Clans, cultural minorities, and settlements express discontent by forming rebel kingdoms, with a specific cause behind each uprising.

- Lord rebellions based on relations with the ruler, culture, and number of fiefs
- National uprisings under foreign cultural dominance
- Anarchist rebellions when one clan controls too many fiefs
- Chaos mode: every landed clan starts as an independent kingdom
- Any lord can become a ruler or join a faction
- Weaker kingdoms form alliances against shared enemies
- Adjust relationship thresholds to control conflict intensity
✅ How gameplay changes: Separatism makes you consider the consequences of conquest. Conquer another culture’s land and appoint a lord of that same nationality? Expect a national uprising. Accumulate too many fiefs and neglect them? Expect anarchy. Careful management can build a huge empire without rebellion, but you must watch relationships, cultural composition, and land distribution.
Alive Scenes
Alive Scenes transforms Bannerlord’s silent towns into living places with 2,043 new NPC lines. Contextual conversations respond to weather, seasons, settlement finances, and even the player’s equipment.

- 2,043 distinctive NPC lines in towns, taverns, villages, and battles
- Dialogue based on profession, age, status, and season
- Soldier reactions to weather, formation type such as archers or cavalry, and the balance of forces
- Residents comment on settlement finances
- Town population density up to 4-5 times vanilla levels
- Full configuration through ModConfiguration.xml
✅ How gameplay changes: Residents commenting on your expensive armor, the cold, or a struggling economy make the world feel alive. Soldiers react to battlefield conditions, encouraging one another when they outnumber enemies and panicking in defeat. Greater population density turns towns from scenery into medieval centers. It is fully save-compatible and can be removed without consequences.
Governors Handle Issues
Governors Handle Issues automates settlement problems through appointed governors. This updated Bannerlord 1.3.x version adds features and fixes bugs from the original.

- Governors automatically handle settlement issues, including construction
- Clear bandit hideouts and send prisoners and treasure to towns
- Automatically appoint new companions as governors
- Lords contribute gold to town and castle reserves
- Optimized gold-based construction boosting
- Governor-change notifications
- Gold from bandit raids redirected to towns and villages
✅ How gameplay changes: It removes the routine of managing every settlement yourself. Appoint a governor and let them handle problems while you trade or wage war. Lords automatically replenishing town reserves stabilize the economy, while automated hideout clearance lets you focus on the current military campaign.
Agriculture Estate Updated
Agriculture Estate Updated lets you buy village land for passive income or put captured bandits to work. This updated version of the original supports Bannerlord 1.8.1 and later.

- Buy village land to collect rent or produce goods
- Use captured bandits as labor
- Integration with Riding, Steward, Trade, and Roguery perks
- Efficiency modifiers based on village production type
- Estate upgrades with discounts from the Contractors perk
- Land-clearing projects add 30 houses to a village
- Land confiscation when at war with its owning faction
✅ How gameplay changes: Agriculture Estate makes villages a source of steady income and production. Captured bandits become estate workers rather than just prisoners. Perk integration means the right skills improve production and reduce costs. The main drawback is losing your investment when war breaks out with the owning faction, so choose locations strategically.
Installing town mods
Settlement management mods need the right load order for stable operation.
Follow this sequence:
- Core libraries: install Harmony, ButterLib, UIExtenderEx, and MCM first
- Map overhauls: Player Settlements loads after libraries
- Economy mods: place Agriculture Estate after map changes
- Interaction mods: Settlement Interactions, Alive Scenes, and Better Townswoman go last
- Testing: start a new campaign to check for conflicts
Town mods often need libraries such as Harmony or MCM. My installation guide explains which supporting mods you need and their order, so everything works on the first try.
How do you choose town mods for your playstyle?
Your choice depends on what interests you in Bannerlord.
For strategy and economics, combine Economy Overhaul, Agriculture Estate, and Governors Handle Issues for deep production, trading, and automation. Player Settlements suits building an empire from scratch and controlling Calradia’s development. Use Alive Scenes for lively towns and Better Townswoman for visual variety. Separatism is essential for political intrigue and challenging campaigns.
Atmospheric towns matter for immersion, but work best within a coherent collection. Reworked locations fit graphics improvements, feel livelier with new armies and bandits, and maintain performance when properly installed. My Bannerlord collection guide explains the full setup and installation order.
If I missed a town mod you consider essential, contact me through the feedback form: I will test it and may add it. To bring these ideas together, use my Bannerlord mod collection guide to plan the rest of your setup.
