Cyberpunk 2077 🚗 Which Cars To Buy And How To Save

The complete guide to buying cars in Cyberpunk 2077

I learned the hard way in Cyberpunk 2077 that spending 1.5 million eddies on vehicles is foolish when most of what you need is free. I know the feeling: browsing AUTOFIXER, spotting a Rayfield Aerondight for 155,000 eurodollars and thinking, “Maybe just this one.” Don't. There's a better way.

Update 2.0 made things easier. No waiting for fixers to spam your phone, thank goodness. No 3 a.m. texts about cars you can't afford. AUTOFIXER terminals now cover Night City in Cyberpunk 2077. You can also buy from any network-connected computer, including the one in your apartment.

What changed with AUTOFIXER after patch 2.0?

Muamar “El Capitan” Reyes now runs the entire AUTOFIXER operation. You'll receive a message from him during the prologue: a fairly ordinary introduction to what becomes your main vehicle-shopping hub. Terminals appear on the map as a car beside a price tag. Open the map, enable the service-point filter and look for that icon. There are several terminals in every district.

Open the map and filter for AUTOFIXER icons to find car-purchasing terminals across the city.

Or use any computer. Your apartment PC works perfectly for browsing and purchases. I've bought cars between inventory-management sessions simply because I couldn't be bothered to go out.

The AUTOFIXER interface, available at terminals or V's apartment computer.

The interface organizes everything into manufacturer tabs. Most vehicles are locked behind Street Cred, which we'll get to later. Some require El Capitan's vehicle contracts if you own Phantom Liberty. You must finish Act 1, specifically The Heist, before most cars become available. It's the game's way of making sure you aren't driving a Rayfield before you've even met Johnny.

Purchases are immediate. No delivery timer or waiting around. Buy a car, and it's in your vehicle list. Done.

Free vehicles to collect first

This is where we save serious money. More than 13 completely free vehicles are scattered across Night City and the Badlands, waiting to be collected. Some are better than cars costing six figures. No joke.

Rayfield Caliburn: black version

This 1660-horsepower machine is the game's fastest car. The white version normally costs 127,000 eurodollars. Know where to look, and you get this one free.

Rayfield Caliburn “Murk Mobile,” the free black Batmobile and fastest car.
Find the Batman-inspired Rayfield Caliburn hidden in a Badlands cave.

During Ghost Town with Panam, you visit the mine where you fought Nash. Return to that tunnel afterward. A shipping container holds a Caliburn, just… sitting there. Take it. It's yours.

The catch: you need 40 Street Cred to trigger Murk Man Returns Again Once More Forever. Worth it, though. I've used this car for perhaps 60% of my trips.

Quadra Type-66 “Hoon”

A free weaponized car with machine guns, available immediately after the prologue. A little ridiculous when you think about it.

Quadra Type-66 “Hoon”: completely free, with machine guns, right after the prologue. Go get it.
  1. Head to Northside, Watson, using the northern waterfront fast-travel point.
  2. Enter the second warehouse on the left in the warehouse area. Johnny appears, naturally, starting I'm in Love with My Car, Number 43.
  3. The keys are in a box beneath rubbish beside the shelves. Tricky to spot, but take your time.

Press ALT on PC, Y on Xbox or Triangle on PlayStation to activate the machine guns. I've used this thing more than I probably should.

Porsche 911 II (930) Turbo

Johnny Silverhand's iconic flashback car. Get it during Chippin' In by choosing a particular dialogue response.

Collect Johnny Silverhand's Porsche 911 during Chippin' In.

When the moment comes, you'll know it, lower your weapon and say “Got lucky today.” You receive a keycard opening the container with Johnny's car and belongings. Miss the response, and you miss the car. Reload if that happens.

The car itself? It looks fantastic, handles pretty well and has that whole driving-a-legend's-car feeling. Neither the fastest nor the most practical, but it carries considerable story significance.

Quadra Turbo-R V-Tech: V's iconic car

The car from the trailers and promotional material, V's signature ride. It's automatically awarded at the end of Sex on Wheels. Don't worry about missing it. Keep playing, and it'll appear.

Good all-round performance, nothing extraordinary statistically, but it's your car in story terms. That's why I kept using it.

Other worthwhile free vehicles

  • Thorton Colby CX410 Butte: at an abandoned Badlands film set. No requirements or quests. Drive there and take your free pickup.
  • Villefort Alvarado V4FC 580 “Vato”: win Beat on the Brat: The Glen. A nice reward for an entertaining fight.
  • Delamain No. 21: finish Epistrophy by dealing with 7 infected taxis. Hunting rogue AI cabs sounds tedious, and is, but the car is worthwhile.
  • Scorpion's Brennan Apollo: automatic main-story reward during Life During Wartime. Unmissable.
  • Jackie's ARCH Nazaré: automatically awarded once Jackie's story unfolds, through Heroes. A difficult moment narratively, but in practical terms, a good motorcycle.
  • ARCH Nazaré “Itsumade”: another story reward, from The Highwayman. Appears naturally as you progress.

That's a solid garage for zero eddies. Now, what if you still want to buy something?

My free-vehicle guide for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty covers additional cars and methods from both the DLC and base game.

Free vehicles in Cyberpunk 2077

The Autojock achievement

Want Autojock? Buy the original 26 launch vehicles, costing roughly 1,354,000 eurodollars. Ouch.

Autojock achievement unlocked by Dafy on Steam.
Yes, I did it. Autojock costs a lot, but completionists can get there.

Important things you need to know:

  • Free vehicles don't count toward the achievement.
  • DLC vehicles and quest rewards aren't required.
  • You need maximum Street Cred, 50, to unlock every purchase.

Honestly, this is about collecting, not practicality. Most players don't need 26 cars. If you're after platinum, though, here's the full list with post-2.0 prices.

Farming eddies for car purchases

Buying everything needs about 1.4-1.8 million eddies. That's a lot, but efficient methods get you there without dying of boredom.

  • Complete missions and gigs: Reliable income without grinding.
  • Loot everything: Weapons, clothing, junk. Some junk is worth 750+ eddies.
  • Sell at drop points: Quick, convenient and everywhere.
  • Never dismantle valuable loot: Selling provides far more money.
  • Farm Pacifica routes: 50-100k eddies per hour with the right approach.
  • Clear NCPD events: Quick cash and Street Cred.
  • Hack access points: 600+ eddies per breach, adding up along the way.
  • Level up early: Higher-level enemies drop more valuable loot.

How to make money in Cyberpunk 2077

Street Cred and vehicles

Most purchasable vehicles are Street Cred-gated. The cap is 50, needed for the most expensive cars.

The fastest ways to raise Street Cred

Do gigs. The simplest method: fixers offer jobs across Night City, you finish them and earn Street Cred XP.

  • NCPD jobs: Organized Crime activities and Scanner Hustles work too. The activities that earn money also raise Street Cred.
  • Playing the main story: Story missions naturally raise Street Cred as you encounter targets with bounties. Simply playing the game will eventually get you there.
  • Cyberpsycho Sightings: A small trick: incapacitate tough enemies non-lethally, then finish them for extra Street Cred. Works on most high-value targets.

Important Street Cred thresholds:

  • Street Cred 0: 8 vehicles unlocked
  • Street Cred 12: most mid-range vehicles available
  • Street Cred 20-30: premium cars start appearing
  • Street Cred 40: Caliburn side job unlocks
  • Street Cred 50: everything unlocked

It took me perhaps 25-30 hours of natural gameplay to reach 50. Don't worry, you'll get there.

Weaponized vehicles and how to unlock them

Phantom Liberty added vehicles with machine guns and missiles. Unlocking them takes particular actions, mainly vehicle contracts.

The best combat vehicles

  • Quadra Type-66 “Hoon”: FREE, machine guns, very fast. Already covered. The best weaponized vehicle for zero eddies.
  • Thorton Galena “Gecko”: 41,000 eurodollars, front guns, off-road ability and around 140+ mph. The cheapest purchasable weaponized car. Excellent for early Dogtown content.
  • Thorton Galena “Locust”: Around 60,000 eurodollars, missiles and widely positioned front guns. An off-roader more agile than Gecko, with easier on-the-move targeting.
  • Archer Quartz “Sidewinder”: Around 90,000 eurodollars, twin machine guns, homing missiles, the fastest weaponized car and enhanced durability. Save for it if vehicle combat matters. Worth every eddie.
  • Militech “Hellhound”: Around 160,000 eurodollars, six wheels, heavy armor, machine guns and a missile launcher. Trades speed for survival. Too slow for my taste, but it's a tank on wheels.

How do vehicle contracts work?

They don't appear immediately.

Finish early main jobs through The Ride and gain open-world access after meeting Dex.

Fixers then contact you about gigs and eventually vehicle offers.

Cyberpunk 2077 vehicle contracts marked with steering-wheel map icons.
Look for steering-wheel map icons, mainly in Dogtown, to start a vehicle contract.

Enter a marked car to trigger Push It to the Limit, then deliver it to El Capitan's drop-off while handling pursuers. Look for steering-wheel minimap icons.

Vehicle contract delivery destination marked as a map objective.
Once you've taken the car, deliver it to the marked drop-off to complete the contract.

Each contract unlocks particular weaponized vehicles in AUTOFIXER. Some include additional objectives: time limits, damage-free delivery, pursuit scenarios or hacking requirements. Completing those objectives earns better rewards.

The jobs are genuinely fun: high-speed Night City chases, combat behind the wheel and trying not to wreck a 100,000-eurodollar car you don't own. Good stuff.

AUTOFIXER discount shards: getting cars for free

Phantom Liberty gets generous here. Stack discount shards for 95-100% off expensive cars.

Vehicle contract reward showing an AUTOFIXER discount shard in Cyberpunk 2077.
Vehicle contracts award AUTOFIXER discount shards. Save them for nearly free expensive vehicles.

Here's how it works: complete vehicle contracts to earn discount shards. Discounts stack with diminishing returns, and 10 shards equal 95% off. The discount only applies to your next vehicle purchase. After buying anything, you'll need to collect fresh shards to build the discount again.

The numbers:

  • 1 shard = 24% off
  • 2 shards = 39% off
  • 10 shards = 95% off

The strategy is obvious: reach maximum discount before buying the expensive cars. That 160,000 Hellhound or 155,000 Aerondight becomes almost free with patience and contract grinding.

Races offering extra money on the Cyberpunk 2077 map.
Tired of contracts? City races offer cash and valuable discount shards too.

Phantom Liberty races award discount shards as well. They're simple enough. Remember, you can bring guns and weaponized vehicles. 🙂

Which cars are actually worth buying?

Let's discuss value. Spending 150,000 eddies on marginal improvements is silly.

Best value

  • Yaiba Kusanagi CT-3X: 58,000 eurodollars. The best available bike, excellent handling, slicing through traffic. If you buy one motorcycle, make it this.
  • Mizutani Shion “Coyote”: 77,000 eurodollars. Ideal in the Badlands, better on desert terrain than most, fast enough for everything. An excellent all-rounder.
  • Quadra Type-66 “Cthulhu”: 76,000 eurodollars. Fast, sleek and capable. One of my favorite city cars, especially at night.
  • Archer Quartz EC-T2 R660: 31,000 eurodollars. The cheapest sports car with decent speed. Requires 12 Street Cred. A solid budget upgrade over starters.
  • Thorton Galena “Gecko”: 41,000 eurodollars. Armed, off-road capable, fast and affordable. The best early combat car. Worth repeating.

Cars you can skip

  • Rayfield Aerondight “Guinevere”: 155,000 eurodollars. Not worth it. Performance doesn't justify the price against cars costing half as much.
  • ARCH Nazaré: 71,000 eurodollars. Worse than cheaper bikes, including the 58,000 Kusanagi. Save your eddies.
  • Makigai MaiMai P126: 22,000 eurodollars. The slowest car at 119 mph. Buy only for Autojock; otherwise ignore it.

Expensive doesn't mean best. I learned that by buying Aerondight and barely driving it. 😅

Can cheats or console commands unlock cars early?

Yes, on PC with Cyber Engine Tweaks:

  1. Install Cyber Engine Tweaks.
  2. Press tilde (~) to open the console.
  3. Enter: vs = Game.GetVehicleSystem()
  4. Then enter vs:EnableAllPlayerVehicles() to unlock ALL vehicles.
  5. Or use vs:EnablePlayerVehicle(«строка_названия_машины», true, false) for individual vehicles.

This bypasses Street Cred and prices, but you won't receive unlock notifications.

Don't go broke building a digital garage

You don't need every Cyberpunk 2077 car. Most players will be happy with free vehicles and perhaps 3-5 purchases for specific uses. Autojock is for collectors. Even then, Phantom Liberty discounts can save a fortune.

Take my advice: save your eddies for cyberware that actually changes how you play. A Sandevistan or Berserk operating system matters much more than owning 26 cars you'll never drive. Quickhacks, weapon upgrades and armor mods are where you should invest first.

Night City is expensive enough. No need to make it worse by spending millions when the best cars are free.

Still have questions, choom?

How much does buying every car in Cyberpunk 2077 cost?

Buying all 26 vehicles required for Autojock costs 1,354,000 eurodollars after patch 1.5. Earlier versions required up to 1,798,000 eurodollars. Buying absolutely everything, including vehicles added by DLC, can bring the total to 1.5-1.8 million eurodollars.

Does difficulty affect vehicle prices or offers?

No. Difficulty doesn't affect vehicle prices or offers. Prices are predetermined and remain the same regardless of difficulty settings. Only your Street Cred determines which vehicles unlock for purchase.

Can I keep stolen cars in Cyberpunk?

No, you can't keep stolen vehicles permanently. They can't be added to your virtual garage. They disappear when you get out or use fast travel. Only cars you've bought or received through missions remain permanently available.

A temporary workaround: park a stolen vehicle in V's apartment garage. It may survive several sessions if not destroyed, but this is unreliable and it eventually despawns.

Is the Militech Hellhound worth it?

Yes, if combat matters more than speed.
Pros: Tank-like armor, almost indestructible at 5.5 magazines to destroy. Twin machine guns and missiles. Six wheels with bulletproof tires. Best durability, rams vehicles and obstacles, intimidating looks.
Cons: Expensive at 160,000 eurodollars. Low top speed, 100-150 mph versus the fastest cars' 210 mph. Slow 0-60 acceleration at 12 seconds. Large size is awkward on narrow streets.

Worth it for vehicle warfare, combat-focused play and anyone wanting a mobile fortress. Skip it if speed matters.

What's the most powerful car in Cyberpunk?

For speed, Rayfield Caliburn, or Yaiba Kusanagi CT-3X among bikes: 210 mph, the fastest car.

For combat: Archer Quartz “Sidewinder” or Militech “Hellhound.”

  • Sidewinder: twin machine guns, homing missiles, 210 mph and the best speed/combat balance.
  • Hellhound: tank armor, machine guns, missiles and maximum durability.

Best overall, free: Rayfield Caliburn “Murk Mobile,” the Batmobile. 1660 horsepower, 210 mph, free through Ghost Town. Dominates lap-time tests against other cars.

Caliburn/Murk Mobile is widely regarded as the strongest car because of its unmatched speed and free availability.
