10 Valheim Building Mods 🎮 2026

Valheim building mods: blueprints, piece rotation, cameras and new structures

Valheim building mods are an excellent remedy for the main problems with vanilla construction. In my three hundred hours with the game, I have had my fill of awkward angles, constant trips to chests for resin and the classic problem of being just short of reaching the roof ridge. This list brings together ten tried-and-tested options: blueprints, freely rotating pieces, new building sets, materials drawn straight from storage and a proper camera that finally detaches from your Viking's body.

PlanBuild

Know that ridiculous feeling when you plan an enormous castle but run out of wood before finishing the entrance hall? PlanBuild changes the approach completely by letting you place ghostly holograms instead of finished pieces. Lay out walls and plan floors at your leisure, then supply the actual materials later. You can save any successful structure as a blueprint and clone it elsewhere.

PlanBuild, a Valheim mod for blueprints and construction planning.
  • The Plan Hammer places ghost plans and costs one wood to craft
  • The Plan Totem finishes structures automatically using nearby resources; it requires 1 wood and 1 greydwarf eye
  • The Blueprint Rune saves, copies and pastes your masterpieces and is crafted from stone
  • Terrain tools let you paint ground, level sites and create slopes
  • Press H to mirror a blueprint, or Ctrl + H for a mirrored copy
  • A shared server blueprint marketplace and bp.undo / bp.redo commands for reversing accidental mistakes
  • Full support for the .blueprint and .vbuild formats from the old BuildShare

PlanBuild requires BepInExPack and Jötunn. On a server, the administrator must manually enable terraforming, direct no-cost building and the blueprint marketplace, because these are restricted by default. You also cannot join a vanilla server with PlanBuild enabled locally.

✅ How it works in practice: design your entire base, judge its scale and only then start hauling logs. Large projects become less likely to end up abandoned halfway through. Compatibility with the popular ValheimRAFT is only partial: blueprints on ships break. If you are planning a megabase, PlanBuild is definitely worth installing first.

OdinArchitect

Vanilla wood and stone pieces get old fairly quickly. No lifts, proper bridges or interesting gates, just more of the same. OdinArchitect adds more than 205 building pieces and provides a separate hammer with its own menu. Castles and ports look considerably more substantial and elaborate with it.

OdinArchitect, a Valheim mod with 205 new building pieces.
  • Odin’s Hammer opens a new building menu and is crafted at a workbench from wood and stone
  • The Stone Chisel unlocks carved Dvergr-style marble blocks and is made from iron at a stonecutter
  • Large and small mechanical lifts
  • Working drawbridges decorated with floating surtling lanterns
  • Hidden floor hatches for secret storage spaces
  • An advanced cooking station that fits well into large halls
  • A composter that turns unwanted raw meat into useful worms
  • Birdhouses and fish traps that convert worms into feathers and raw fish
  • Iron and dark gates without a ridiculous central post, plus stained-glass doors

An important OdinArchitect installation detail: both the client and server need it. When updating to version 1.4.0 or newer, delete old localization files and configuration files first, or the game will start producing errors. If the server uses AzuAnticheat, manually allowlist OALanternFix.dll.

✅ What actually changes: lifts and proper gates open up construction of multilevel fortresses with deep moats. Traps even let you set up passive production of food and arrow feathers. OdinArchitect is hugely popular, with more than a million downloads, but your entire guild will have to download it.

Gizmo

Vanilla mechanics only let you rotate a beam around the vertical axis. Building a proper leaning tower or complex roof by eye is torture. ComfyMods' Gizmo gives you complete control over the piece. It assigns X- and Z-axis rotation to separate keys, letting you turn a piece to any conceivable angle in midair.

Gizmo, a Valheim mod for freely rotating building pieces.
  • Hold Left Shift to rotate around the X axis
  • Hold Left Alt to rotate around the Z axis
  • Press V to reset the selected axis; the configuration can instead reset every axis at once
  • Rotation increments range from 2 to 256 divisions across 180 degrees
  • Local mode rotates a piece around its own center
  • A dedicated mode precisely aligns eight angled-roof variants
  • An allowlist specifies objects the mod should ignore

This is a purely client-side mod: put ComfyGizmo.dll in your BepInEx/plugins folder. Completely remove any old ComfyGizmo build, version 1.8.0 or earlier. The easiest way to adjust angles and increments is through ConfigurationManager in-game.

✅ How construction feels: round towers and sloping roofs stop being an ordeal. Fine rotation increments let you fit beams together with precision. PlanBuild officially states full Gizmo compatibility. There is one catch: Gizmo uses Left Alt for the Z axis, and that key directly conflicts with PerfectPlacement by default.

PerfectPlacement

Sometimes a piece simply refuses to line up properly, and snapping prevents you from shifting it a few centimeters. Azumatt's PerfectPlacement targets exactly that fine-adjustment problem. The author took three of the best features from the old ValheimPlus: free rotation, freezing placement and editing existing objects. Azumatt emphasizes that he has no connection with the current VPlus team.

PerfectPlacement, a Valheim mod for precise piece placement and rotation.
  • Rotate objects in one-degree increments around Y, X and Z using Left Alt, C and V
  • Copy a neighboring piece's angle: press F for parallel alignment or G for perpendicular alignment
  • Freeze a piece in midair with F1, then move it with the arrow keys
  • Advanced editing of existing structures: select with Numpad0 and confirm with Numpad Enter
  • Force snapping to a fixed grid with 0.5-, 1-, 2- or 4-meter spacing

All PerfectPlacement features are disabled by default after installation, so you need to edit the configuration. It works client-side, but server installation blocks players who lack the mod. Rebind the keys: Left Alt and F7 share functions with plenty of other mods.

✅ What you gain: positioning accurate to a degree, with a grid that helps lay long, straight floors. Remember that the game's structural-support system still applies: a poorly supported wall will collapse anyway. There is little point in running two rotation mods, so you need to choose between Gizmo and PerfectPlacement.

AzuCraftyBoxes

Running from the third floor to a chest downstairs for a couple of iron nails is a classic annoyance by hour ten. AzuCraftyBoxes eliminates that routine. It automatically draws the logs and bars you need from containers within a configured radius. Resources are consumed when you swing the hammer or use a workbench.

AzuCraftyBoxes, a Valheim mod for crafting and building from nearby chests.
  • Configurable resource-collection distance, set to a comfortable 20 meters by default
  • Detailed rules in Azumatt.AzuCraftyBoxes.yml can prevent access to specific items or chests
  • Toggle resource pulling immediately with O + Left Alt
  • Flashing interface text indicates when materials come from a chest instead of your backpack
  • One item is left in each chest slot by default so other mods' sorting systems keep working

AzuCraftyBoxes needs to be installed on the server and for every player. ServerSync enforces settings for all participants. The detailed filtering-rules file is generated in BepInEx/config.

✅ Where the time savings come from: stand in place swinging your hammer while the base draws resin and wood from downstairs. Fine control through the yml file prevents the mod from consuming rare loot in your private stash. AzuCraftyBoxes handles nonstandard chests well and works comfortably with Epic Loot altars.

Building

A vanilla Viking could build Minas Tirith by hand without gaining a single relevant skill. Smoothbrain's Building corrects that injustice by introducing an actual Building skill. The more you swing your hammer, the more you improve. Your huts gradually become tougher, and your placement range expands nicely.

Building, a mod that adds a construction skill to Valheim.
  • Slow but steady increases to constructed pieces' maximum health
  • Higher skill levels let your hammer reach farther and higher
  • Each skill point reduces construction stamina costs by 1%
  • After level 30, tools wear down a third more slowly
  • At level 50, a small chance to place a piece free of charge appears; demolishing it does not refund materials either

Building's balance is easy to adjust in the settings. Installing it on a dedicated server enforces that configuration for everyone connected.

✅ How it feels during a playthrough: long, tedious hours on a building site finally translate into tangible character benefits. The mod puts no real load on the system and works smoothly in multiplayer. For a group, I would install it on the server so nobody feels left out while building a shared base.

Build Camera Custom Hammers Edition

Hopping along narrow rafters while trying to attach the final roof piece is questionable entertainment. Azumatt's Build Camera Custom Hammers Edition does the obvious thing: it detaches the camera from your Viking's eyes so you can float freely around the site. Left-click places pieces and right-click opens the menu, just as usual.

Build Camera Custom Hammers Edition, a Valheim construction camera mod.
  • Activate the camera with B near a workbench or forge; rebinding that key immediately is a good idea
  • Space moves up, Ctrl moves down, and Shift speeds up flight as usual
  • Proper controller support
  • Supports modded hammers and the vanilla hoe and cultivator
  • Light-emitting items such as the Wisplight and Dverger circlet follow the camera
  • Built-in protection prevents the view from clipping beneath the terrain
  • Configure flight range, speed and comfort-level requirements

Put the BuildCameraCHE dll in the plugins folder; its configuration file is created as Azumatt.BuildCameraCHE.cfg. Crucially, download version 1.3.4+ from Hexium. Community members report that the older Thunderstore build completely breaks controller input in release 1.0.

✅ What changes: you can fly around your half-built shed within workbench range. Predictably, the mod breaks when combined with Masa's FirstPerson or ValheimPlus's first-person view. You need only one building camera from this list. Installing several invites a pile of conflicts.

Cartur’s Build Camera

If Azumatt's camera is stuck at version 1.3.1 on Thunderstore and crashes when you use a controller in Valheim 1.0, there is a working fork. Cartur’s Build Camera rebuilds the project for patch 1.0.16 and fixes its predecessor's bugs. The familiar feature set has been carried over intact.

Cartur's Build Camera, a detached construction camera mod for Valheim.
  • Free flight works with any tool that has a building menu, including modded tools
  • Activation moves to Shift + B to avoid conflicts with other addons' slots
  • Safely leaves camera mode if your body dies unexpectedly or enters a portal
  • The camera collects ground loot while respecting ward protection
  • Fog-clearing effects and helmet light follow the viewpoint
  • Separate mouse and stick inversion settings, plus panning

If you leave Azumatt's original camera installed, Cartur's mod disables its scripts, takes control and issues a console warning. Existing settings are transferred from the old configuration on first launch.

✅ How it differs from the original: irritating controller crashes disappear, and a stray deathsquito killing you during roof repairs no longer breaks the interface. Cartur’s Build Camera also conflicts with first-person mods. Its page carries an AI Generated label, so back up your saves before installing, just in case.

My Build Camera

Normally, an invisible wall a few meters away limits where you can build. EndoCo's My Build Camera does more than free the view: it extends placement range to an extraordinary 100 meters from your character. As a bonus, the camera pulls loose stones and drops straight into your pockets.

My Build Camera, a free-camera mod with long-distance piece placement.
  • Standard flight controls: B activates it, WASD moves, Space ascends and Left Ctrl descends
  • Place objects up to a hundred meters away
  • Remote resource collection works within 10 meters of the camera itself
  • A built-in nighttime camera light
  • Clears Mistlands and Ashlands areas by simulating the Wisplight status
  • Controls pause when you open a chest, chat or console
  • Your Viking's body is frozen while you fly, preventing falls off cliffs or sinking

Place BuildCamera.dll in Valheim/BepInEx/plugins. Adjust speeds, keys, collection radii and lighting directly in-game through ConfigurationManager, opened with F1.

✅ How it changes normal gameplay: collecting loot through a flying camera seriously upsets survival balance. For comfortably building giant projects, it is a delight, but hardcore players may find it too much of a cheat. My Build Camera also handles the hoe's behavior properly.

ValheimBuildCamera

Tumbling down a slippery cliff with your building materials is an adventure in itself. Stonaar's ValheimBuildCamera is a strictly client-side tool that frees the camera while preserving vanilla snapping, repair hitboxes and demolition behavior. The server does not even know you are using it.

ValheimBuildCamera, a client-side free construction camera mod.
  • Start free-camera mode with F6 while holding a hammer; on a controller, press both sticks simultaneously
  • Free viewing range extends to 50 meters
  • Demolished pieces instantly teleport their returned materials into your backpack
  • Multi-build places rows of walls and floors with one click
  • Clear red indicators show whether a piece fits and how many neighboring pieces will fall if you demolish a support
  • Feather cape and circlet visual effects work correctly
  • Pieces that fail structural checks and collapse automatically return their materials to your inventory

ValheimBuildCamera requires a recent BepInEx version. Installation is manual: distribute the archive contents exactly as the author's page instructs.

✅ What you gain in practice: the plugin smooths out many small irritations, while placing floors with one click saves mouse wear on long spans. Version 1.12.0 was receiving faster updates than alternatives when this list was compiled, but the AI Generated label warrants caution. A major advantage is that you do not need to convince the administrator to install it on the host.

Recommendations for installing building mods

A decent manager usually fetches the required libraries automatically, so manually digging through files is not always necessary.

  • Always back up your worlds folder before adding a batch of new plugins.
  • Choose suitable software: r2modman or Thunderstore Mod Manager works well for Thunderstore, while Gale handles Hexium.
  • Install the essential BepInExPack; the manager usually adds it automatically.
  • Install no more than two mods at a time, then launch and check. Otherwise, identifying the culprit after a crash becomes exhausting.
  • Setting up a server? Remember that everyone needs OdinArchitect and AzuCraftyBoxes, whereas Gizmo, Cartur’s Camera and ValheimBuildCamera run entirely client-side.
  • Do not get greedy. Keep only one building camera out of the four, and exactly one rotation mod: Gizmo or PerfectPlacement.
  • Open ConfigurationManager and check the keybindings. Left Alt and F7 seem permanently assigned to three functions at once.

Which Valheim building mods should you install first?

PlanBuild, Gizmo and any decent camera are more than enough to start. The first helps avoid unfinished projects, the second fixes awkward beam joints and the third saves you from climbing planks for one hammer swing.

Add OdinArchitect for fresh decorations and AzuCraftyBoxes to forget about moving wood between chests. Building is more specialized: choose it if you want character progression from hundreds of placed walls. Consider PerfectPlacement if a fence being one degree out of alignment drives you up the wall.

If I missed a genuinely useful Valheim building mod, leave me a comment. I will run it on my saves and may add it to this list.
