The best Valheim modpacks for solo play, friends and servers

The best Valheim modpacks fall into three categories: all-in-one tools, total overhauls and packs for joining other people's servers. This article explains pack versions, dependencies and installation pitfalls.

MidgardPlus

Installing a dozen small convenience mods is tiring, which is rather ironic, and they often conflict. OdinTheRed's MidgardPlus combines farming, storage, building, maps and crafting. Every feature starts disabled. The game stays vanilla until you enable what you want.

• Smart farming: crop hints, mass harvesting and automatic planting.
• Convenient storage: quick deposits, sorting and chests that read sign labels.
• Crafting from nearby chests and task queues for kilns and smelters.
• Advanced building: free piece rotation, excavation and blueprints for a builder companion.
• A map and compass with automatic markers and friend beacons.
• Companions, mounts, faction villages and base sieges.
• Legendary weapons, new bosses and runes.

BepInEx and Jotunn are required, but your manager downloads them automatically. You can install the pack on a dedicated server. The key rule is that everyone's second version number must match: any 1.56.x release works with another 1.56.x. Configure it in-game through F9, a text configuration or the separate MidgardPlus Launcher for Windows.

✅ How gameplay changes: initially, it does not, and that is the appeal. If you already use ValheimPlus or PlantEasily, MidgardPlus yields overlapping functions to them and notes this in the log. There are more than a thousand settings. I recommend enabling one section at a time and checking the result.

Savheim V Full

If you know vanilla Valheim inside out and it no longer challenges you, try Ools' Savheim V Full. This total overhaul of version 1.0 rebuilds combat, magic, construction and difficulty from scratch. Biomes after the Black Forest can be tackled in any order, and enemies grow stronger after each boss dies.

• World difficulty rises with boss kills. In multiplayer it adjusts to the strongest nearby player.
• Elements interact and cause explosive reactions.
• Completely new combat and seven weapon classes.
• Magic becomes available in the Black Forest, with caster, healer and necromancer playstyles.
• Free building without strict limits: rotate pieces freely and build underground bunkers or sky castles.
• Ocean exploration, diving and gardens in any biome.
• Unique quests that award special boss weapons.

Install only through Gale Mod Manager. The author warns that Thunderstore hosts an incomplete version. Download Savheim V Full for solo play or your own server; choose Savheim V Client for someone else's server. More than thirty dependencies make initial world generation slow.

✅ What changes in-game: old saves do not work here. Create a new character and world. The pack was tested only with its listed dependencies, so outside addons can break everything. If bugs arise, delete the Gale profile and reinstall. Your worlds and characters remain intact.

Helmgard

Vanilla chest looting is dull, and characters lack a conventional experience level. Helmgard combines Epic Loot, Epic MMO System, Norse Demigods and Therzie's equipment to fix that. It is designed specifically for private servers. Weapons and armor gain magic properties and rarity tiers. Characters level up, allocate attribute points and serve gods in exchange for blessings.

• Magic, rare, epic and legendary enchanted items.
• Character levels and attribute points.
• Worship through Norse Demigods for special abilities.
• Therzie's weapons, armor and magic staves for each biome.
• Valheim Enforcer stores character data directly on the server.

The pack targets a particular private server: the inviting administrator must provide its address and password. It bundles eleven packages. Update Helmgard itself, not individual included mods, or mismatched versions will prevent connection.

✅ Before joining: create a new character. Bringing an old veteran makes the server remove their equipment, placing it in storage rather than deleting it, and reset their skills. Since Valheim uses the same character across worlds, that progression is lost in other saves too. Server difficulty is standard and base raids are disabled. Without an invitation, the pack itself is useless, but its mod list is an excellent reference for your own RPG setup.

DogHaus Valheim

Vanilla lacks seasons, and builders quickly exhaust its limited pieces. The DogHaus Valheim pack from the server of the same name adds 20-day seasons, harsh winters and huge Balrond and Odin building sets. Server configurations are bundled, so the correct settings are ready immediately.

• Long winter cold: wet clothes and nighttime frost can easily kill you.
• Balrond, Odin, CoreWood, FineWood and Missing Pieces building packs add walls, roofs, fences and drawbridges.
• Advanced landscaping: convenient leveling, embankments, roads and terrain resets.
• Reworked raids: only a third remain vanilla; the rest are new and depend on weather, time and season.
• Ships respond to overloading and storms, while winter freezes the sea.
• Interactive armor and weapon stands work as chests.

Purely client-side mods are in a separate DogHaus Extras pack, including Quick Stack, ZenUI, the J-key world grid and other conveniences. Update only the DogHaus Valheim entry in your manager. Never press Update all: the server strictly checks individual mod versions and rejects extra updates.

✅ What draws you in: winter is unforgiving. Without a fire, torch or warm clothing, you quickly freeze to death. Winter sleeping requires a roof and nearby heat. Enemy fire only ignites structures after the Elder dies. Bosses are tougher, with 25% extra health and another 30% for each nearby player. A great pack for groups that love large construction projects and want a challenge from nature.

Valheim MegaModPack

Installing a hundred mods manually can consume an evening and reward you with desktop crashes. Krynex's Valheim MegaModPack installs everything together: weapons, armor, magic, creatures, biomes, dungeons, mounts and improved graphics. Its page description is in German. More than a hundred dependencies include MidgardPlus, Epic Loot and Therzie's work.

• Hundreds of weapons, armor pieces and equipment items.
• Developed magic and skill trees.
• New enemies, bosses, unexplored biomes, dungeons and sea monsters.
• Mounts and tamable pets.
• An enormous selection of building pieces, advanced storage and expanded inventories.
• An improved map, new interface, attractive graphics and optimization patches.

Multiplayer requires the same pack version for everyone. Dedicated servers need extra configuration work. Version 1.0.1 was released on October 15, 2026. Note the AI Generated label on Thunderstore.

✅ Before launch: more than a hundred mods always mean conflict risks and a very long first load. Frame-rate patches such as Valheim Performance Overhaul are included, but on a weaker computer I recommend testing in an empty world first. MidgardPlus 1.55.5 is bundled, so do not install it separately.

Bogus Valheim

Walking between bases and carrying ore on your back gets old after the first move. Adam's Bogus Valheim is a server pack for Valheim 1.0. It includes Epic Loot, professions, portals and plenty of convenience features. The package is exclusively for joining the server of the same name.

• Epic Loot for crafting items with magical properties.
• Skills and professions from ImpactfulSkills, Hunting, Artisan Mastery and Hunter Legacy.
• Advanced portals transport animals, carts and ships as well as players.
• Crafting from chests, batch crafting and quick loot deposits.
• Adventure Backpacks and additional inventory slots.
• Reworked BetterArchery bows and DualWield combat.
• A shared map, compass, clock and convenient markers.

Ask Adam for the address and password to connect. When an update arrives, press Update all in r2modman. Every component must be current to join. Remember DogHaus? Its rule is the exact opposite, so do not confuse them.

✅ Useful to know: the server is actively maintained. Version 1.0.4, for example, added three mods, including LongshipUpgrades for upgrading longships. An outdated pack is rejected by the server. Even if you do not plan to play with Adam, this mod list is an excellent starting point for an RPG experience with friends.

How to install a Valheim modpack without server rejection

Almost every pack here uses r2modman, Thunderstore Mod Manager or Gale. Your manager downloads BepInEx, Jotunn and other dependencies automatically.

1. Install a mod manager and choose Valheim from its game list.
2. Create a clean profile for the new pack, leaving your old profile alone.
3. Open Online, search for the pack name and install it.
4. Launch with mods; r2modman provides Start modded for this.
5. For private servers, obtain the administrator's address and password and add them to your server list.
6. Follow the authors' update rules strictly. Update only the pack entry for DogHaus and Helmgard; always use Update all for Bogus Valheim.
7. Savheim and Helmgard require a new character. Savheim also needs a new world.
