10 Valheim Armor Mods 🎮 2026

Valheim armor mods: new sets, upgrades, dyes and appearance changes

Valheim's default armor starts feeling repetitive around the Plains: silhouettes and colors barely change. I have collected 10 ways to fix that, including new sets, armor progression, dyeing, appearance changes and a couple of useful extras.

SouthsilArmor

In the base game, your armor options run out before you are ready for the next biome. SouthsilArmor adds more than 30 sets across all regions and fills the gaps between vanilla progression stages.

SouthsilArmor for Valheim: new armor sets for every biome.
  • Sets from the Meadows to the Deep North: light, heavy and very heavy.
  • Heavy armor provides roughly +2 armor per piece but reduces movement speed by 7% rather than the usual 5%.
  • Many sets have their own effects. Valdr, for example, increases stamina regeneration by 20%.
  • Stats and crafting materials can be changed in the configuration file.
  • Four capes are included, some still being refined by the author.

The author has not balanced four overpowered sets: Dragon Queen Champion’s, Thetis, Last Hero’s and World Serpent. Avoid crafting them if you want a fair playthrough. Shieldmaiden’s chest and leg pieces fit male characters poorly and clip because the set was made for the female body. Some updates require deleting the old configuration, so always read the patch notes.

✅ How gameplay changes: heavy sets protect you better but slow you down more. Heavy Fenrir does the opposite, adding 5% movement speed, reducing running and jumping stamina costs by 25% and granting +25% sneak. The author admits it is somewhat overpowered. I recommend this mod for the relaxed playthrough it was designed for. Before starting, open the settings and tone Heavy Fenrir down a little.

Armory

Each new biome makes your old armor obsolete, but throwing away a favorite set hurts. Armory adds a new forge where you can upgrade vanilla armor and keep wearing it in later regions. The station improves through ordinary forge upgrades.

Armory for Valheim: a forge for upgrading armor to the next biome's tier.
  • Any vanilla set can be upgraded at the Armory station to match the next biome's tier.
  • Armor gains bonuses. Hunter boosts pierce damage and Bow/Crossbow skill, Rogue improves knives, and Warrior strengthens clubs.
  • The Ymir belt increases carrying capacity by 300.
  • Recipes can be changed in the settings.

It requires Warfare version 1.9.5, also covered below. After updates, the author recommends deleting the old Therzie.Armory.cfg configuration file. The creator is currently rebuilding the mod and preparing original armor sets.

✅ What changes in practice: instead of discarding the previous biome's armor, you upgrade it for the next area. Some recipes require monster materials from Monstrum. If you do not use that mod, change the recipes or assign the required loot to vanilla enemies, as the author suggests.

Chaos Warrior Armor

Valheim lacks grim plate armor: even late-game equipment looks too tidy. Chaos Warrior Armor adds a set with six upgrade tiers. Its models and textures come from Grim Age, a Warhammer Fantasy mod for Mount and Blade.

Chaos Warrior Armor for Valheim: plate armor with six upgrade tiers.
  • Six progression tiers, T0 to T5. T0 through T4 each have four quality levels.
  • Crafting materials progress with the biomes, from bronze and troll hide to flametal and Mistlands resources.
  • The final tier offers variants A and B, both requiring a level-five black forge.
  • Variant A has less armor, but its shield triggers more often, absorbs more damage and scales with eitr.
  • Variant B has more armor and a weaker shield that activates only after enormous damage.
  • Variant A's leggings grant a little eitr, while variant B's grant stamina.

Install the mod manually: install its dependencies first, then extract the files into the game folder. Versions 14.0.0 and newer require Jotunn and JsonDotNET. The author briefly tested release 1.0 and a local server, reporting that things generally work. Item names are unrelated to Warhammer lore, but the models are derivative works whose rights belong to Games Workshop.

✅ What changes in-game: at the highest tier, you choose a playstyle. I recommend variant B for conventional melee combat, while variant A suits eitr magic users.

AshKnightArmor

Assembling a classic knight from vanilla pieces is difficult. AshKnightArmor adds a set with original models and three progression stages, beginning with purchases from traders and ending with Ashlands forging.

AshKnightArmor for Valheim: the Mossguard, Glintfang and Ashbeak knight sets.
  • Mossguard armor is sold by the Bog Witch; Haldor also sells the helmet. Its stats sit around bronze and iron tiers.
  • Glintfang is forged from Mossguard, silver and Frost Cave resources. It provides 2 more armor than wolf armor.
  • Ashbeak uses Glintfang, flametal and Ashlands resources, plus a Fallen Valkyrie trophy for the helmet. It provides 2 more armor than flametal armor.
  • Armor makes realistic clanking sounds when you walk. Client settings can disable the sound.

Mossguard cannot be upgraded within its own tier. The mod requires Jotunn. Pieces combine well with vanilla armor because the author separated the chest and leg textures.

✅ How gameplay changes: the armor progresses with your character, so you do not need to replace it every biome. If metal clanking becomes annoying, switch it off. Version 1.1.4 only updated dependencies for release 1.0, leaving the mechanics unchanged. A small but current mod.

Armoire

The best stats often come with the worst looks, forcing you to choose between protection and appearance. Armoire separates appearance from stats. You can use any item you have already discovered as a skin over your equipped armor.

Armoire for Valheim: an appearance-changing wardrobe with three saved outfits.
  • Appearances unlock automatically when an item enters your inventory or is simply encountered in-game.
  • Build an animated wardrobe at your base to open the collection window.
  • Your character remembers up to three outfits, switchable at any time.
  • Works with all vanilla weapons and armor, except the Dead Raiser staff and status-effect visuals.
  • Compatible with custom equipment, multiplayer and controllers.

The wardrobe costs 10 wood, 2 bronze and 2 tin. Install the mod on both server and clients, as versions are checked on connection. Settings are stored in advize.Armoire.cfg and can be edited with a text editor or Configuration Manager.

✅ How gameplay changes: wear armor with top stats while looking exactly how you want. No more compromises. Agree on installation beforehand in multiplayer, because everyone needs the mod.

MarkYourGear

Identically dressed Vikings blur into a faceless crowd in multiplayer. MarkYourGear adds a Runic stamp to the workbench, letting you put a distinctive mark on your cape or chest armor.

MarkYourGear for Valheim: runic symbols on capes and chest armor.
  • The stamp is crafted at an ordinary workbench.
  • Six categories offer ten symbols each.
  • Apply symbols to any cape or chest piece, on both the front and back.
  • Since version 1.2, sleeves and thigh guards can also be stamped.
  • Upgrading an item no longer removes its design.

BepInEx is required. Simply copy the archive files into the game folder.

✅ The result: only players with the mod can see the patterns, making it suitable for your own group. It pairs well with the same author's DyeYourGear. The addon is very new, so back up your world before installing.

DyeYourGear

Is everyone wearing identical armor? A little dye fixes that. DyeYourGear adds the Dye Bottle, crafted at a workbench, which recolors clothing, armor and weapons in any color.

DyeYourGear for Valheim: recolor clothing, armor and weapons in any color.
  • Craft the bottle at a workbench.
  • Choose an item and shade, and the color is saved permanently.
  • Since version 1.4, successful colors can be saved to a palette.
  • The dye menu previews equipped items on your character.
  • Client-side only; no server installation is needed.

BepInEx is required. Move the archive files into the game folder.

✅ How gameplay changes: only people with this mod see the new colors. For solo play, installing it locally is enough. It pairs well with MarkYourGear, letting you dye a cape and decorate it with runes at the same time.

MoreBettererUpgrades

Vanilla item upgrades hit a hard cap. MoreBettererUpgrades removes upgrade limits from weapons, tools and armor, with a catch: successive levels need materials from later biomes rather than the same resource repeatedly. It is based on Desires' older MoreUpgrades addon.

MoreBettererUpgrades for Valheim: armor upgrades beyond the vanilla cap.
  • Maximum item level defaults to 10 and can be configured.
  • The author's example: high-level bronze sword upgrades require iron first, then silver.
  • Armor is divided into heavy, light, medium, special and capes, each with its own progression scheme.
  • Upgrade costs are based on the game's standard recipes.
  • Wooden, flint and stone equipment cannot exceed vanilla limits.

The configuration controls required station levels, material quantities and stat gains. Prefer installing through r2modman or Thunderstore Mod Manager; BepInEx is also required. The mod fully supports version 1.0 and Deep North content. For errors, the author asks for a GitHub issue with LogOutput.log attached.

✅ What you get in practice: favorite equipment stays useful longer because you can upgrade it throughout the game. The author does not guarantee compatibility with new armor-set mods, so add them one at a time.

Savheim V Full

Finding ten separate mods and checking their compatibility takes time. Savheim V Full offers a ready-made pack that completely overhauls the game. Armor is just one part of the changes, with distinct light, medium and heavy sets in most biomes.

Savheim V Full for Valheim: a modpack with new armor for each biome.
  • New armor types appear across regions, with distinctive appearances and bonuses.
  • A full medium-armor set removes stamina consumption while sneaking.
  • In freezing conditions, bare skin and metal take longest to freeze. Leather freezes faster, and cloth faster still. Helmet, chest and leg pieces are tracked separately.
  • Open the appearance window with the T-shirt button beneath the inventory slots.
  • Combat is completely rebuilt, with seven new weapon classes.

Install the pack strictly through Gale Mod Manager. The author warns that manually downloading the archive causes errors. For solo play or your own server, search for “Savheim V Full” in the manager; for someone else's server, download “Savheim V Client.” You must create a new character and world, because the pack will break old saves.

✅ What changes in practice: this is a total overhaul, not just an armor pack. The creator only tested its bundled dependencies, so do not combine it with the other mods in this list. An excellent option for replaying Valheim from scratch.

Warfare

New armor without new weapons feels odd, especially when the vanilla arsenal is fairly small. Warfare addresses that while serving as Armory's required foundation. The author lists 107 weapons, 8 shields, 13 arrow and bolt types, 3 meads, a bomb, 2 pickaxes and a dedicated bow-and-arrow crafting station.

Warfare for Valheim: 107 new weapons, shields and a bow-crafting station.
  • Adds pikes, lances, greatbows, enormous two-handed swords and throwing weapons with their own skill.
  • Eight new shields.
  • All two-handed weapons receive new attack animations.
  • Adds crossbows, a dedicated crafting station and a training dummy.
  • The battleaxe, sledge and flesh rippers are completely reworked. Their vanilla recipes disappear when the world loads, but the old items remain obtainable through the console.

The author recommends deleting the old Therzie.Warfare.cfg after updates. The sheer number of items overflows Better Trader's shop configuration and breaks trading. KGMarketplace with Majestic’s Marketplace configuration is suggested instead. No new monsters are included; those require the separate Monstrum mod.

✅ How gameplay changes: pair Warfare with Armory or use it independently for impressive weapons. It is the most popular addon in this selection, with more than one and a half million downloads.

Recommendations for installing Valheim armor mods

Almost every mod here runs through BepInEx, with requirements listed on each addon's page. Managers such as r2modman, Thunderstore Mod Manager and Gale fetch the required libraries automatically. Chaos Warrior Armor on Nexus Mods is the exception: its author requests manual installation.

  • Close the game and back up your saves before installing any files.
  • Give Savheim V Full a separate manager profile.
  • Check dependencies: Armory requires Warfare 1.9.5, Chaos Warrior Armor needs Jotunn and JsonDotNET, and AshKnightArmor requires Jotunn.
  • Install mods individually and launch the game after every new addition. This makes the culprit obvious if it crashes.
  • After Armory and Warfare patches, remember to delete Therzie.Armory.cfg and Therzie.Warfare.cfg.
  • For multiplayer, install Armoire on both host and clients. Every participant needs MarkYourGear and DyeYourGear to see one another's dyes and runes.

Which Valheim armor mod should you install first?

For new armor in every biome, download SouthsilArmor. Armory and Warfare are a good pairing for upgrading familiar vanilla gear. Install Armoire to create a good-looking outfit without sacrificing stats, and DyeYourGear to recolor it. Save the extensive Savheim V Full pack for a completely new playthrough.
