Night City overwhelms the senses. Flashing neon, crowds, endless radio chatter… it's a lot. The last thing you need is a cluttered screen that pulls you out of the experience. Your interface is the lens through which you see the world. It should help, rather than get in the way.
This guide covers Cyberpunk 2077's HUD, from the basic layout to fully customizing it with settings and mods. It's part of the guides and mod collections on my main Cyberpunk 2077 hub. Let's get your interface sorted.
A guide to the default Cyberpunk 2077 interface
The default interface is styled as a feed from your Kiroshi optical implants, which is a great detail. Curved edges, that futuristic aesthetic… Beneath the styling, though, the screen is packed with information you need to survive.

Here's what goes where:
- Top left: health and status. Your character level, XP bar, health and active effects such as bleeding or burning. Those small blue vertical bars are cyberdeck RAM, essential for a netrunner.
- Top right: minimap. The yellow line leads to your quest objective; blue shows your markers. A red border means you're in a dangerous area. Stay alert.
- Bottom right: weapons. Everything about what you're holding: remaining ammunition, your stance, crouched or standing, and buttons for quick actions.
- Bottom left: quick access. Your phone, vehicle call, healing items and grenades.
- Quest tracker: Usually sits below the minimap, reminding you what to do next.
- Stamina bar: A contextual element that appears when you're exerting yourself, sprinting or swinging something heavy.

Other elements appear occasionally, such as a large red boss health bar or the driving speedometer. There's plenty of information, sometimes too much.
How do you resize the HUD and fix display problems?
Is Cyberpunk 2077's interface too small? Or does it spill off-screen, getting cropped at the edges? This is common, especially on a TV.
In-game accessibility settings
Starting with patch 2.1, CDPR added useful accessibility settings that give more control.
- Go to Settings > Accessibility.
- Enable Larger HUD Elements (the enlarged-interface option).
- You can also enable Larger Fonts there to make subtitles and tooltips easier to read.

Also consider Remove HUD Visual Effects if ghosting or chromatic aberration annoys you, and Reduce HUD Decorative Elements for a cleaner display.
Fixing TV overscan
Cropped interface edges usually mean TV overscan. Televisions often zoom the image slightly, pushing the game's edges off-screen.

Open your TV's picture settings and look for:
- Fit to Screen or Just Scan, often found on Samsung TVs.
- Display area (on Sony, you sometimes need to turn off Automatic Display Area).
- Overscan.
- Screen format.
The easiest option is enabling your TV's Game Mode. It often turns overscan off automatically.
My HUD disappeared! Restoring missing interface elements
A disappearing HUD mid-firefight can cause panic. This persistent bug often follows scanner use.
- Scanner trick: Quickly toggle the scanner a few times. Sounds silly, but often wakes the interface up.
- Game restart: The old-fashioned “switch off and on” method. A full restart usually removes the temporary glitches.
- The console solution: The most reliable method. With Cyber Engine Tweaks installed, open the console and enter a command to force a UI reset. It works every time.
Open the console and enter:
Game.GetUISystem():ResetGameContext()
This command reboots the interface context and almost always puts everything back in place.
Manual reset without mods: if you'd rather avoid the console, try nudging the game through in-game actions.
- Go to Settings > Interface and toggle an option such as Centered Stamina Bar off and on. This can force the HUD to refresh.
- If that doesn't help, visit a safe zone, such as V's apartment or the Afterlife, where your weapons are automatically holstered. Entering and leaving often resets the interface state.
- Phone stuck? Visit your apartment and perform a story interaction, such as sitting on the couch with Johnny. This can unstick dialogue scripts.
By the way, if you haven’t used the console yet, check out my Cyberpunk 2077 console command guide.

Essential mods for full HUD customization, including colors
The built-in options are decent, but full personalization needs mods. They let you control exactly what appears and when.
Limited HUD — For the Immersion Junkie
My favorite interface mod. Limited HUD hides almost everything by default and shows it only when needed. Health appears when you take damage. Ammo appears when you draw a weapon. Quests appear when you zoom in.
You can flexibly adjust visibility for different situations:
- Combat.
- Stealth.
- Driving.
- Weapon drawn.
- Scanning.
The screen becomes much cleaner. You're looking at the world instead of numbers and icons. It makes you feel much more present in Night City.

HUDitor — Your Personal UI Drag-and-Drop
Wanted to move the minimap down or shrink the quest tracker? HUDitor does exactly that. It's a visual editor for moving and resizing HUD elements directly in-game.
Press Shift + U to enter editing mode. Then you can:
- Drag elements with a mouse.
- Resize them with the mouse wheel.
- Press ‘X’ to restore the original layout.
This mod gives you complete control over the layout of the screen. Make the interface convenient for your style of play.
Want a complete interface makeover? These are just the start. My larger collection covers the best UI mods I use for a clean display, including HUD color changes. All have been checked for compatibility with the latest version.
Your interface, your rules
There's no perfect interface. Some want every number visible; others, like me, prefer minimalism. The game supplies the basics and mods expand them. Combine its settings with Limited HUD and HUDitor to enjoy Night City's views instead of fighting the interface.
Don't be afraid to experiment – a clean screen changes the perception of the game more than it seems.
Unusual HUD glitches and their fixes
Why do prompts keep switching between keyboard and controller when no controller is connected?
Annoying, I know. Usually, it's a mouse picking up tiny desk vibrations, or Windows detecting a “controller” in a device such as the Logitech G13. The game keeps trying to figure out which input you're using.
Fixes:
- Steam: Library -> right-click Cyberpunk -> Properties -> Controller -> open the override -> select Disable Steam Input.
- Registry: open Device Manager and disable unnecessary virtual controllers.
- Big Picture: launch through Steam Big Picture. It sometimes forces correct input detection.
Why does the crosshair disappear during combat?
Usually, it's a weapon-state conflict or a smart weapon bug. The game forgets what you're holding or gets confused when switching between conventional and smart weapons.
Fixes:
- Quick fix: holster your weapon and draw it again using double Alt or the holster button.
- Restart: exit the game completely, relaunch and load your save.
- Smart weapons: If you use a smart gun, switch to a regular one and then back again.
- Mods: install Fading Crosshairs to stabilize the crosshair.
- Aiming: aim down sights with right mouse and release a few times.
How do I remove the Relic visual glitch stuck on-screen after a mission?
A notorious bug. It usually occurs during Playing for Time if you tell Johnny, “You're even more messed up than I am.” The screen starts distorting, and it persists even after restarting.
Fixes:
- Roll back: load a save from before the elevator and choose different dialogue responses.
- Brendan: complete the talking vending machine's quests, specifically Spray Paint near Megabuilding H8. It requires 8 Body.
- Mod fix: install Glitch Begone, load your game, save, remove the mod and load the new save.
- Console: enter Game.GetUISystem():ResetGameContext() in CET.
The speedometer or weapon icons are stuck on-screen. What should I do?
The game failed to switch HUD mode. Often happens after leaving the scanner in patches 2.12+.
Fixes:
- Mod: install Fix Disappearing HUD Elements, which fixes these stuck elements automatically.
- Reset: use your mod's HUD reset button if available. Otherwise, use the CET console.
- Ripperdoc: visit one and swap any piece of cyberware. The cutscene resets the interface.
- Combat: start a fight or toggle the scanner.
- Settings: toggle interface elements off and on in the game settings.
Is ghosting or chromatic aberration around HUD elements normal?
Yes, it's intentional, suggesting slightly glitchy cyberware. At high graphics settings, though, it can resemble dirt or noise.
Fixes:
- Settings: enable Remove HUD Visual Effects under Accessibility.
- Graphics: Turn off Lens Flare in the graphics settings, this can help.
- Mod: install Purify the UI from Nexus Mods to remove the effect entirely.
- Simplify: enable Reduce HUD Decorative Elements under Accessibility.
HUD elements are off-screen or bunched together on an ultrawide monitor. How do I fix this?
Ultrawide owners often encounter badly positioned interface elements, especially at unusual aspect ratios such as 32:9.
Fixes:
- HUDitor: The best solution. Press Shift+U and arrange everything by hand.
- Settings: Check the "Safe Zone" option in the screen settings.
- TV: disable overscan on your monitor or TV using Just Scan or Fit to Screen.
- Driver: select No scaling in the NVIDIA or AMD control panel.
- Mods: Limited HUD has settings specifically for ultra-wide screens.
