Core modding frameworks
Before we get to the good stuff, let’s talk requirements. Most quality clothing mods need a few core tools to work properly. Think of them as the foundation holding everything up.
Equipment-EX
Your wardrobe felt cramped, didn’t it? The base game does not have many clothing slots, and that becomes a real problem when you collect dozens of modded outfits.

Equipment-EX solves this problem by completely redesigning the clothing system. Instead of being confined to standard categories, you get 50+ clothing slots and a brand new interface that’s really handy. The mod automatically converts your existing outfits on the first run, so you won’t lose anything.
- New Transmogrification System with 50+ Clothing Slots
- A brand-new interface accessible through the Hub menu and in V’s apartments
- Unlimited control of outfits with the ability to give them names
- Works with both vanilla and modded items
- Automatically converts existing clothing sets
✅ Gameplay changes: practically essential if you plan to install several clothing mods. The vanilla system was not built for the variety modders create. Equipment-EX addresses that fundamental problem with quality-of-life improvements (QoL) that should have been part of the base game.
ArchiveXL
Most clothing mods won’t even boot without this framework. ArchiveXL prevents resource conflicts when multiple mods try to add new items to the game.

Think of it as a core mod for community content. Without it, expect crashes, missing textures, or items failing to appear.
- Allows you to load custom resources without conflict
- A required dependency for most clothing mods
- Prevents crashes and loss of content
- Light and stable.
✅ Gameplay changes: Allows clothes from mods to appear and work correctly in the game. Install this first This is one of those tools under the hood that you will forget about immediately after installation, but everything depends on its proper operation.
Virtual Atelier
You know how spawning clothing through console commands breaks immersion? Virtual Atelier fixes that by creating in-game shops where you can actually buy modded clothing.

The system integrates seamlessly with Night City’s economy. Access shops through V’s computer, browse their stock as you would with any clothing vendor, and pay with eddies. Many clothing mods provide their own dedicated virtual stores.
- An in-game shopping system for modded items
- Purchases through V’s computer
- Integration with the game’s economy
- A lore-friendly way to obtain items
- Supports many specialty stores
✅ Gameplay changes: turns obtaining modded items from console spawning into immersive shopping.

Mod installation recommendations
To keep these mods running smoothly, you need to follow the correct installation order. Most clothing mods share requirements, so installing the core tools will save you plenty of frustration.
- Start with the main frameworks: Cyber Engine Tweaks, RED4ext, ArchiveXL, TweakXL and Equipment-EX are your foundations. Install them first, in order, and make sure they are updated. Outdated frameworks are the main cause of problems.
- Use Vortex Mod Manager if you are a beginner: it does most of the work for you and prevents mistakes. For manual installation, always read the description. Some mods require specific folders or steps.
- Check compatibility. Although most mods are friendly with each other, conflicts are possible. Comments on the mod page usually contain compatibility information.
- Virtual Atelier is optional but recommended. Supported mods let you buy items naturally rather than use console commands. Install it before clothing mods.
