9 Best NPC Mods For Cyberpunk 2077 👥 In 2026

Good Cyberpunk NPC mods are harder to find than you might expect. Most mods focus on V or weapons and forget the crowds. I tested dozens of options and collected the ones that genuinely change the city’s atmosphere, from character reactions to their appearance.

My Cyberpunk 2077 page brings together all the guides and mods for the game.

Responsive NPCs

Cyberpunk’s standard NPCs respond to the world like cardboard scenery. This mod gives them memory and logic.

Responsive NPCs cover with three characters and an "I'm scared" speech bubble.
  • Crowds react to V’s nudity with comments based on cyberware level
  • A system of disguise through the clothing of gangs and corporations
  • NPCs spot heavy weapons in corporate neighborhoods
  • Characters dodge your car and run away when threatened.
  • Crystal Coat mechanic to trick police during chase
  • Chasing System – Crowds notice if you’ve been following someone for too long
  • The quest retaliation system affects gang reactions

✅ How it changes gameplay: the city stops being a backdrop. Corpos get nervous when you enter Arasaka’s lobby with a shotgun on your back. Maelstrom members remember your actions and change their attitude. Crowds react to your style and clothing, letting you impersonate a gang member or blend in with corpos.

Night City Alive

Night City can feel empty even in the center. This mod adds gang members, police, and a more aggressive crowd.

Night City Alive: two characters on a sidewalk beneath an elevated road.
  • Members of gangs move in cars and motorcycles around the city
  • Motorcycles built into the traffic system
  • Civilians are actively responding to crimes
  • The system of relations between gangs affects the behavior of the police
  • Police change tactics based on your gang affiliation
  • Three versions of density: low, standard and high
  • Gangs are active in the Badlands

✅ How it changes gameplay: forget peaceful drives. The Valentinos can start a confrontation at a traffic light, and police only intervene if you become involved. Civilians do more than flee gunfire: they fight back or call reinforcements. The city lives its own life independently of your actions.

Psycho Crowds and Traffic Improvements

Standard crowd AI walks in circles and disappears around corners. This INI tweak rewrites its core behavior algorithms.

Psycho Crowds optimizes movement to fix silly bottlenecks and strange AI behavior.
  • Reducing AI Behavior Bugs for More Natural Movement
  • Versions for different performance and density
  • NPCs often stop to interact with objects of the world
  • Characters appear farther away from the camera and are less likely to come into view
  • Fewer accidental changes in direction
  • Improved crowd distribution without single-file queues
  • Longer routes with more variety
  • Crowds are more likely to notice the player

✅ How it changes gameplay: NPCs stop following preset routes like zombies. They pause to buy food, talk, and navigate obstacles naturally. Traffic moves faster and becomes more varied, instead of cars getting stuck in two-car jams.

Night City Enhanced and Expanded — NPCs

Cyberpunk’s districts can all feel equally empty. This mod places new vendors and characters at key locations.

Night City Enhanced fills empty locations with new interactive characters and vendors.
  • More population in Watson, Japantown and Heywood
  • New vendor locations across the city
  • Secondary NPCs and background characters
  • ripperdoc in H10 with cyber upgrades
  • Background events involving NPC conflicts
  • Revitalizes Rocky Ridge with mercenaries, nomads, and drifters
  • More merchants and a bar on the Redwood Market
  • Clouds opens for visits
  • Embers becomes a public bar with corporate NPCs
  • The Maelstrom Clinic opens through various solutions in the plot

✅ How it changes gameplay: districts gain distinct character. Japantown has more Asian vendors and street trading. Heywood fills with Latino residents selling distinctive goods. Rocky Ridge changes from a ghost town into a lively place with mercenaries and traders. Iconic story locations become bars you can visit normally.

Lifepath Bonuses and Gang-Corp Traits

The choice of backstory at the beginning of the game does not affect anything. This mod rewrites the damage system and adds uniqueness to gangs.

Lifepath Bonuses and Gang-Corp Traits: a collage of seven characters.
  • Overhauls damage to give gangs and corporations distinct traits
  • Lifepath-based bonuses and penalties against different factions
  • Thematic damage changes, such as the Animals resisting ranged weapons
  • Settings through the Native Settings UI menu
  • Rebalancing effects for every gang and corporation
  • Adds Barghest, NUSA, and NCPD as configurable factions
  • Encouraging different styles of play

✅ How it changes gameplay: the Nomad lifepath gives a bonus against Militech. The Animals withstand bullets but are weak against melee weapons. Maelstrom members gain a Tech weapon bonus. Each gang requires different tactics, rather than one universal build.

4K New Female Complexions and Better NPCs

Standard skin textures look plastic. This mod reworks V’s appearance and that of every female NPC.

4K Female Complexions: highly detailed textures with natural skin pores and wrinkles.
  • Two versions: V1 (rough with imperfections) and V2 (clean, young)
  • Options with or without eye shadows and eyebrows
  • Improve small details for all character textures
  • Detailed 2K textures for most female NPCs
  • It works better with textures on high settings

✅ How it changes gameplay: characters stop looking like wax figures. V1 adds freckles, wrinkles, and pores for realistic skin with a history. V2 looks younger and cleaner, while remaining livelier than vanilla. NPCs receive the same improvements, so crowds stop sharing the same texture.

NPCs Enhancement — Hyst Bodies

All female NPCs use one body model. This mod adds body variety and reworks key characters’ appearances.

Hyst's NPCs Enhancement adds five body types to reduce the city's crowds of clones.
  • Five body options: Big Breast Push-up, Big Breast Standard, Big Breast Natural, Big Butt and Vanilla Big Breast
  • Enables breast physics
  • Altered appearance for many NPCs including Skye, Rita Wheeler, Roxanne
  • Focus on sex workers, dancers, random NPCs and holograms
  • Separate lists of sex workers for Night City and Dogtown
  • Compatible with Appearance Menu Mod

✅ How it changes gameplay: NPCs stop looking like identical clones. Skye at Clouds gets a distinctive body and hairstyle, and club dancers look different from one another. Crowds become more visually varied, without the impression that one model was copied across the city.

CET NPC Body Tweaks

Constantly changing game files can be risky. This mod makes temporary NPC body changes through CET without editing files.

CET NPC Body Tweaks changes pedestrians' appearances without risking file damage.
  • Subtle edits of female models of NPCs in certain areas
  • Temporary changes without constant editing of game files
  • Configure through the CET window
  • Takes into account the censorship settings of the game (deactivated by default)
  • Requires manual activation in mod settings to activate 18+ content
  • Only affects generic NPC models
  • Doesn’t affect the player’s body.
  • Works together with other body mods

✅ How it changes gameplay: change the crowd’s appearance on the fly without risking game files. Changes apply only while the mod is active; remove it, and everything returns to normal. Useful for visual experiments without permanent changes.

NPCs Gone Wild

The standard game censors sex workers and strippers. This mod removes the limitations and adds detail.

NPCs Gone Wild removes software censorship in nightclubs, boosting realism in Night City.
  • Fully nude strippers and improved sex workers
  • 4K textures of naked skin with sculptural 3D details
  • Breast Physics and Different Sizes
  • Variants of hairstyles for intimate areas
  • Focus on eroticism, not the total nudity of all female characters
  • REDmod and regular installation versions
  • Low resolution patch for weak texture settings

✅ How it changes gameplay: adult content no longer feels half-finished. Clouds and other entertainment venues look appropriate to their themes. Dancers are actually nude instead of wearing invisible underwear. 🙂 The mod keeps a balance, removing silly censorship where it stands out without turning the whole city into you-know-what.

Mod installation recommendations

Most mods here require Cyber Engine Tweaks and REDmod. Install CET first, as the foundation for many mods. My guide explains the process in more detail.

  • Responsive NPCs and Night City Alive may conflict. Choose one or read their descriptions for compatibility patches. I prefer Responsive NPCs for its deeper mechanics.
  • NPC body and appearance mods can be combined, but watch load order. NPCs Enhancement – Hyst Bodies must load after 4K New Female Complexions. CET NPC Body Tweaks makes temporary changes on top, avoiding conflicts.
  • Night City Alive requires Phantom Liberty DLC and will not run without it. Lifepath Bonuses and Gang-Corp Traits is best installed for a new playthrough because it changes balance from the start.
  • Psycho Crowds has versions for different performance. Start with the standard version and increase the density only if the FPS is stable. A high density version requires a lot of resources.

Bring Cyberpunk 2077’s npcs to life

The standard game gives you a beautiful but dead city. These mods transform the background into a living world with memories, reactions, and consequences.

Responsive NPCs and Night City Alive form the foundation. The first gives NPCs logic and personality; the second fills the streets with activity. Psycho Crowds improves AI so crowds behave naturally.

Lifepath Bonuses gives weight to your decisions, making backstory and actions matter. Night City Enhanced populates empty locations, while appearance mods reduce visual repetition.

If I missed any mod that really changes the NPCs, write to me. 🙂 I’ll test it and maybe add it to the list.
