Vanilla Oblivion quests are great… the first time. But once you’ve saved Martin a few times, the world can feel kinda static. That’s where the modding community comes in, giving us the tools to keep our Cyrodiil adventures going forever.
This list is packed with my favorite Oblivion Remastered quest mods, a mix of big overhauls and some obscure quest content that seriously changes the game. It’s a core part of my whole Oblivion Remastered project, where I’m putting all my guides and mod lists together.
Ascension Remastered – Vanilla-Plus Loot and Balance
This is one of those mods that just… makes sense. It tackles the weird loot system in vanilla Oblivion, where you’d find bandits walking around in priceless Daedric armor just because you hit level 25. It felt cheap, like the world revolved entirely around you.

- Completely reworks how loot is distributed.
- Makes high-tier gear like Glass and Daedric genuinely rare, found only in boss chests or ancient ruins.
- Balances creature spawns so low-level enemies still appear at higher levels.
- Adjusts game mechanics like alchemy, persuasion, and pickpocketing for a more consistent challenge.
✅ Gameplay changes: The game immediately feels more grounded and rewarding. Finding a piece of Elven gear feels like a real achievement, not just another random drop. Dungeons are more exciting because you know the best stuff is waiting in the boss chest at the end, not on the first goblin you see. It brings back that feeling of progression that Morrowind nailed and Oblivion kinda lost.
Infinitum – Compendium
If you ever wished the guilds had more to do after their main questlines, this is your answer. Infinitum is a massive package that adds endless radiant quests for almost every major faction, all bundled together for convenience.

- Combines five separate faction mods into one installation.
- Adds over 200 repeatable assassination contracts for the Dark Brotherhood.
- Introduces 100+ theft contracts for the Thieves Guild with a unique “Fox’s Favor” currency.
- Includes endless combat contracts for the Fighters Guild and radiant quests for the Mages Guild and Arena.
✅ Gameplay changes: It turns the guilds from a one-and-done storyline into a persistent part of your gameplay loop. Need money? Go do a few contracts for the Fighters Guild. Want to cause some chaos? The Dark Brotherhood always has work. It gives you a reason to keep coming back to these factions long after you’ve become the guild master, making your role feel more meaningful.
Unleveled Item Rewards
This is a simple mod, but man, is it essential. It fixes one of the most frustrating design choices in Oblivion – getting a permanently weaker version of a unique weapon just because you did the quest “too early”.

- Ensures all unique quest rewards are the best possible version, no matter your level.
- Covers over 100 items from the base game and all DLCs.
- Works retroactively, meaning it will automatically upgrade any under-leveled quest items you already have in your inventory.
✅ Gameplay changes: Freedom. That’s what this mod gives you. You can do quests in whatever order you want without having to consult a wiki to see if you should wait. It’s a huge quality-of-life improvement that lets you just play the game and enjoy the story. No more FOMO because you finished the Knights of the Nine questline at level 10.
After you've fixed the quests, you might want to make the world itself look and feel more immersive. The right lighting and sky can completely change the atmosphere. I put together a guide on my favorite weather mods for Oblivion Remastered that complements these questing changes perfectly
Oblivion Remastered Weather ModsDark Brotherhood – Infinitum
For those of us who think the Dark Brotherhood questline is the peak of Oblivion, this mod is a dream come true. It adds a Hitman-style contract system that lets you continue your work for the Night Mother indefinitely.

- Adds over 200 randomly generated assassination contracts.
- Provides both regular and high-priority contracts with scaling rewards.
- Generates unique NPC targets to avoid conflicts with existing quests.
- Includes a chance for bonus enchanted loot with every successful kill.
✅ Gameplay changes: It provides a solid, lore-friendly endgame for assassins. The random nature of the contracts keeps things fresh, and the two-tier system lets you choose your level of challenge. It’s the perfect way to earn gold and test your stealth skills long after you’ve dealt with the Black Hand.
Thieves Guild – Infinitum
Similar to its Dark Brotherhood counterpart, this mod breathes new life into the Thieves Guild by adding an endless supply of theft contracts. It cleverly focuses on what makes the guild fun: stealth and larceny in the big cities.

- Generates over 100 infinitely repeatable theft contracts.
- Rewards players with gold and a unique currency, Fox’s Favor.
- Fox’s Favor can be used to buy guild services like removing bounties, reducing infamy, or acquiring lockpicks.
- Focuses on urban stealth rather than dungeon crawling.
✅ Gameplay changes: This mod makes being a thief a viable career. The Fox’s Favor system is genius – it gives you practical rewards that actually help you as a thief. Instead of just getting more gold, you can invest in services that make your life of crime easier. It’s a smart loop that encourages you to keep playing your role.
Main Quest Progression Requires Closing Oblivion Gates
Here’s one of those hidden gem mods you might have missed. It addresses a weird pacing issue where you’re supposed to be saving the world from a Daedric invasion… but you barely have to close any Oblivion gates to do it.

- Gates the main quest progression, requiring you to close a certain number of Oblivion gates to proceed.
- Offers multiple difficulty settings, letting you choose how many gates you need to close.
- Encourages exploration since the gates don’t have quest markers.
✅ Gameplay changes: Immersion, plain and simple. It makes the Oblivion Crisis feel like a real crisis. The world feels more dangerous, and your role as the hero feels more earned. Forcing you to venture out and find these gates creates natural downtime between major story beats, giving you time to do side quests and just live in the world. I’d strongly recommend this for a new playthrough.
Imperial Legion – Infinitum
Another lesser-known mod that fills a massive hole in the vanilla game. Why couldn’t we join the Imperial Legion? It’s the most prominent faction in Cyrodiil! Well, now you can.

- Makes the Imperial Legion a fully joinable faction with its own rank progression.
- Adds over 100 new radiant quests, including arrest warrants and outlaw bounties.
- Introduces a new currency, Writs of Merit, for faction rewards.
- Includes a corruption system that lets you exploit your power for personal gain.
✅ Gameplay changes: This is a huge win for roleplayers. It opens up a completely new character path. You can finally play as a loyal soldier of the Empire, enforcing the law and climbing the ranks. The radiant quests provide plenty of content, and the addition of sub-factions like the Imperial Watch adds even more depth. A must-have for anyone wanting to play a law-and-order character.
Of course, better quests are one thing, but if the combat feels floaty and unsatisfying, it can ruin the experience. Fighting all those new contract targets will be a lot more fun with some improvements. I have a whole list of Oblivion Remastered combat mods that tighten things up and make every sword swing feel impactful.
Oblivion Remastered combat modsFighters Guild – Infinitum
The Fighters Guild often feels like the most straightforward… and maybe the most boring guild. This mod helps fix that by giving you a reason to stick around after the main quest with an endless supply of combat-focused jobs.

- Adds over 200 randomly generated combat contracts.
- Ensures infinite replayability for the faction.
- Contract difficulty and rewards scale with your level.
- Focuses on varied combat scenarios around Cyrodiil, not just in dungeons.
✅ Gameplay changes: It turns the Fighters Guild into a proper mercenary organization. You’re a sword for hire, and this mod ensures there’s always work to be done. It’s a great way to test out new character builds and just enjoy the game’s combat without having to commit to a long, story-driven quest.
Mages Guild – Infinitum
Mages get some love too. Once you’re Arch-Mage, there isn’t much left to do. This mod provides an endless stream of magical tasks and research projects to keep your spell-slinging character busy.

- Adds radiant quests for magical research, artifact retrieval, and spellcasting challenges.
- Introduces new magical items and a faction-specific currency.
- Provides a steady stream of content that scales with your magical prowess.
✅ Gameplay changes: It makes being the Arch-Mage feel like an actual job, not a retirement plan. You have responsibilities and research to conduct. It gives you a great, lore-friendly reason to keep exploring ruins and hunting for magical artifacts, all while earning rewards tailored specifically for a mage.
Oblivion Recalibrated
For players who want a dramatically improved experience without spending days curating their own mod list. Oblivion Recalibrated is a full collection, assembled by a professional game designer, that aims to create the definitive “vanilla-plus” version of the game.

- A pre-configured collection of mods that overhaul balance, progression, and quality-of-life features.
- Fixes unfair difficulty spikes and exploitable mechanics.
- Installation is fully automated through Vortex for ease of use.
- All files are documented and editable for those who want to tweak the experience.
✅ Gameplay changes: This is less a single mod and more a complete vision for the game. It takes the guesswork out of modding and delivers a balanced, coherent experience right out of the box. If you’re new to modding or just want a proven setup that fixes Oblivion’s biggest flaws, this is an amazing starting point.
Mods Installation Recommendations
Installing mods for Oblivion Remastered is generally straightforward, but here are a few quick tips.
- Use a Mod Manager: Seriously, don’t try to manually install everything. Tools like Vortex or Mod Organizer 2 save you so much headache. Vortex, in particular, is great for collections like Oblivion Recalibrated.
- Read the Requirements: Always check the mod page for requirements. Many of the Infinitum mods need things like MagicLoader and UE4SS to function. Don’t skip these steps.
- Check for Conflicts: Pay attention to what a mod changes. A mod that alters the main quest, like the Oblivion Gates one, might not play nice with other mods that touch the same scripts. Most mod authors are good about listing known conflicts.
Beyond the Main Story
The whole point of these mods is about making the world of Cyrodiil feel alive and persistent. It’s about giving you the freedom to be the character you want to be, long after the main story is over. Whether you’re a lifelong assassin for the Dark Brotherhood or a dedicated soldier in the Imperial Legion, these faction quest mods and hidden gems give you the tools to write your own endless adventures.
If you know of any other rare quest mods or uncommon content I might have missed, feel free to reach out. I’m always looking for new things to test for my Oblivion Remastered mod lists, and I might just add your suggestion to this page.
